Okay, so, today I wanted to share a little project I worked on – making a wool bale. Now, I’m no expert, but I found it pretty interesting, so I thought, why not share the journey?
First off, I started by gathering my materials. I found that each bale needs to be pretty big. I made mine using packs that are about 70 cm by 70 cm, and 98 cm long. Oh, and they need flaps, about 46 cm. It is a standard size, I think.
Then, I began collecting the wool. I didn’t shear any sheep myself, mind you. I got my wool already cleaned and ready to go. I learned that it takes around 35 to 40 fleeces to fill one of these bales. That’s a lot of wool!
Once I had enough wool, I started packing it into the packs. This took some time, and I had to make sure the wool was evenly distributed. It was a bit of a workout, honestly. After filling the packs, I had to press them down.

- The next step was an important one – weighing. I found out that a wool bale should weigh between 120 kg and 204 kg. Most of mine were coming in around 170 to 190 kg.
Finally, I secured the bale. It was quite satisfying to see the finished product. A full, heavy bale of wool, ready to go!
So, that’s my little wool bale adventure. It was a fun, hands-on project, and I learned a lot about wool and how it’s packaged. Maybe not the most exciting story, but hey, it’s something different, right?
