That marine corps watch cap, you know, it got some rules. I heard them young’uns talkin’ ’bout it the other day. Seems like them Marines, they got rules for just ’bout everything, even how to wear a simple wool hat.

They call it a “watch cap”, sounds fancy. But it’s just a knitted cap to keep your head warm. But in the Marine Corps, even a simple hat got rules.
First off, it gotta be a special kind, one that the big shots in the military give out. They call it “DSCP issued”. And it’s gotta be that coyote brown color, like the dirt out in the fields. Can’t just wear any old cap you find at the store, no sir.
Now, when can they wear it? Well, it ain’t for all the time. They can wear it with them green field uniforms, the ones they call “MCCUU”. That’s when they’re out and about, doin’ their trainin’ and such, or even when they’re just hangin’ around the base, what they call “in garrison.”
- Marine Corps Watch Cap: It gotta be that special kind, “DSCP issued”.
- Color: Coyote brown, like the dirt.
- When to wear: With them “MCCUU” uniforms, in the field or in garrison.
And get this, they can also wear it with their workout clothes, their “physical training uniforms.” Guess even when they’re sweatin’ and workin’ out, they gotta follow the rules.
But here’s the kicker. If they’re wearin’ that watch cap with their workout clothes, they ain’t supposed to salute. Don’t ask me why, that’s just what them young’uns said. Somethin’ ’bout not salutin’ when you wear that watch cap with the PT uniform.

Now, I heard ’em talkin’ ’bout other things too, like them sunglasses. They can wear ’em, but only when they’re not in formation, standin’ all straight and proper with the other troops. Unless some doctor says they need ’em, then I guess it’s okay.
And they can wear watches, but they gotta be plain and simple. Nothin’ flashy or showy. Same with rings. Just simple stuff, nothin’ that’ll catch the light too much. I guess they don’t want no shiny stuff givin’ away their position when they’re out in the field.
One of them boys, he’s gettin’ ready to be a big shot, somethin’ called “commissioning.” He was askin’ ’bout wearin’ a watch under his fancy blue uniform. I guess there’s rules for that too, but I didn’t catch all of it. Too much talk for this old brain.
And the shirts under their camouflage uniforms, they call ’em “cammies”. Turns out, they don’t even have to wear a green shirt under there. It is up to them. Who would’ve thought?
They got a whole book of these rules, somethin’ called the “Marine Corps Uniform Regulations“. It’s probably thicker than the good book. They even got rules for the mommas-to-be, about what kind of clothes they can wear when they’re expectin’. Seems like the Marine Corps thinks of everything.

If you gonna go to that big fancy party they have, the “Marine Corps Ball”, you better read up on them rules. You don’t want to be caught wearin’ the wrong thing. They take this stuff real serious.
Those US Marines, always with the rules. But it is these rules that make them so good, I guess. Still, it’s a lot to remember just for a simple watch cap.
They say now they gonna make sure all them Marines got these watch caps. Used to be optional, I guess, but not anymore. Gotta keep those heads warm, especially when they are out there protectin’ us. I guess rules on the marine corps uniform are really important.
- Sunglasses: Okay when not in formation, unless a doctor says otherwise.
- Watches and Rings: Plain and simple, nothin’ flashy.
- Undershirts: They ain’t gotta wear a green shirt under their cammies.
- Uniform Regulations: A whole big book of rules about what to wear.
- Marine Corps Ball: Better know the rules before you go.
- Marine Corps Watch Cap now is a must have.
They are saying that wearing a watch inside the wrist is good for battles. It can reduce the reflection of sunlight. After all, I don’t want those boys to be seen by enemies. It is a good rule, I would say.
And that marine corps watch cap regulations, it is there for a reason. It is to keep them boys warm, and safe. So I ain’t complainin’. Just tryin’ to understand it all. It is a lot for an old lady like me to take in, but I try my best. Those Marines, they do a lot for us, so the least I can do is try to understand their rules, even the ones about a simple watch cap.
