Using a Watch Demagnetizer: Easy Steps for Beginners!

Okay, so my watches were running a bit wonky recently. They were gaining time, like, a lot of time. I figured they might be magnetized, so I decided to try and fix it myself. I’m no watchmaker, but I like to tinker, you know?

Using a Watch Demagnetizer: Easy Steps for Beginners!

First, I grabbed a compass. I figured I need to check my watch if magnetized or * Yep, the needle went crazy near my watches, spinning around like it was possessed. Definitely magnetized.

So, I went online and ordered a cheap demagnetizer. You know, one of those blue box things. It arrived in a couple of days, no frills, just the box and a power cord.

The Demagnetizing Process

Here’s how I did it:

  • I plugged in the demagnetizer. Simple enough.
  • I held the watch a few inches above the surface of the demagnetizer.
  • Then, I pressed the button on the demagnetizer. It made this weird humming noise.
  • While holding the button, I slowly moved the watch upwards, away from the device, for about 10 seconds. Like, really slowly.
  • Then I released the button.

I did this a couple of times for each watch, just to be sure. I don’t really know how it works, some kind of magic with alternating current or *, I test the watch with compass again.

Anyway, I checked the watches with the compass again, and the needle stayed pretty still. Seemed like it worked! I set the time on them and left them overnight.

Next morning, I checked them again. Still keeping good time! Looks like the demagnetizer did the trick. They’re back to normal. It was surprisingly easy, and I saved myself a trip to the watch repair shop. I can wear my watches again.
