Thinking about buying a Coperni dress? Here is what you need to know about price.

Okay, so I saw this thing, the Coperni dress, you know, the one they sprayed onto the model? Wild stuff. It really got stuck in my head, not just the visual, but the whole idea of making clothes right there, right then.

So, I got curious. Like, really curious. How did they even do that? My first thought was, “Is this some kind of fancy paint?” I spent a bit of time just watching that video clip over and over. You see the model, Bella Hadid, just standing there while these guys spray this white goo all over her.

Trying to Figure It Out

I started digging around, trying to understand the basics without getting lost in crazy science words. Here’s what I gathered, just from observation and piecing things together:

  • It wasn’t paint: It looked like some kind of liquid fiber stuff.
  • It dried fast: Like, almost instantly as it hit her skin, it turned into something solid, like fabric.
  • Layering was key: They didn’t just spray once; they built it up, layer by layer.
  • Finishing touches: Then someone came and tweaked it, cut the hem, adjusted the straps. It became a real dress.

My Little Experiment

Now, obviously, I don’t have a lab or fancy spray guns. But I wanted to get a feel for it, you know? Just playing around. So, I decided to try something really basic at home. This wasn’t about recreating it, just exploring the idea of sprayed-on layers.

Here’s what I did:

First, I got an old mannequin torso I had lying around. You could use cardboard or anything vaguely human-shaped, I guess.

Then, I grabbed some stuff I had: PVA glue (like school glue) and some cheap hairspray with strong hold. I also found some cotton balls, pulled them apart into really fine wisps.

I watered down the glue slightly, put it in a little spray bottle. It didn’t spray well, more like sputtered, but okay. I sprayed a section of the mannequin.

While it was wet, I tried sticking the cotton wisps onto it. It kinda worked? Sort of lumpy.

Then I thought, maybe the hairspray? I sprayed the hairspray over the cotton/glue patches. It did make it a bit stiffer, held it together more.

I repeated this messy process a few times on different spots. Spray glue, add cotton, spray hairspray. Build it up a tiny bit.

The Result? Well…

Honestly? It was a sticky mess. It looked nothing like the sleek Coperni dress, obviously. More like some weird, lumpy paper mache experiment gone wrong. It didn’t drape, it just sort of… stuck there. Flaky in some parts, gooey in others.

But doing it, even in this super crude way, made me appreciate the real thing more. The tech involved in getting those fibers suspended in liquid, spraying them evenly, having them bond and solidify instantly into a wearable fabric… that’s seriously next level. My little craft project just highlighted how complex it must be.

So yeah, that was my little dive into the idea of the Coperni dress. Didn’t make fashion history in my workshop, but it was a fun afternoon trying to wrap my head around how such a thing could even exist. Still blows my mind when I think about that show.
