Okay, so I’ve been on this whole Hermès color journey lately, trying to figure out which shades really do it for me. And let me tell you, the struggle between etoupe and etain is REAL. I started by hitting up the local Hermès store – gotta see these colors in person, you know?

I walked in, and the first thing I did was ask to see bags in both colors. The sales associate was super helpful, and they brought out a few different styles for me to compare. I spent a good hour just staring at these bags, turning them this way and that under different lights. It is said that Etoupe is a greige color that is both grey and brown.

At first, I was pretty sure I was team etoupe. It’s this warm, taupe-y shade that just feels so versatile. And the bags in etoupe almost always have that contrast stitching that I find so appealing. I could totally picture myself rocking an etoupe Birkin with literally everything in my closet. I noticed that etoupe looked lighter than etain.

But then, I started looking at the etain bags. Etain is a deeper, cooler grey, and it has this understated elegance that really drew me in. It’s less common than etoupe, which definitely added to its appeal. It’s also quite versatile and works well with neutral outfits. I imagined myself carrying an etain Kelly to a fancy dinner or a work event. And they are more valuable than etoupe ones.

I was so torn! Both colors are gorgeous, but they have totally different vibes. After leaving the store, I decided to do some more research online. I scoured through forums and blogs, looking at photos and reading other people’s opinions. It feels like etoupe is more of a casual, everyday color, while etain is a bit more dressed up. And, of course, everyone had their own personal preferences and reasons for choosing one over the other. Someone said that if you wear jeans a lot, go with the lighter Etoupe.

Ultimately, after much deliberation, I realized I was leaning more towards etain. While I still love etoupe, I feel like etain fits my personal style a bit better. It’s a bit more “me,” you know? Plus, I don’t have a lot of grey bags in my collection, so an etain piece would really fill a void. At the end of the day, I chose etain, because it is more in line with my dressing style.

So there you have it – my journey from etoupe to etain. It was a tough decision, but I’m happy with where I landed. Now, to find the perfect etain bag…
