Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “bioactive keratin ferment” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started because, well, I saw some stuff online and got curious. My goal? See if I could whip up something that might, just might, be good for my skin or hair.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my materials. This was the most “science-y” part, and honestly, I felt like a mad scientist in my kitchen. I needed:

  • Keratin source (I used some old wool scraps I had lying around – don’t judge!)
  • Some sort of “fermenting agent”. After some digging,I chose specific bacteria.
  • A bunch of containers, distilled water, and a pH meter (borrowed that one).

The Messy Part

I chopped up the wool into tiny bits – this took forever, by the way. Then, I mixed it with the distilled water in a big, sterilized jar. The key here was to get the right ratio, and I ended up eyeballing it more than I’d like to admit. Next, I added my “fermenting agent” – that bacteria concoction.

Now came the waiting game. I sealed the jar and stashed it in a warm, dark place. My closet, to be exact. For weeks, I checked on this thing, monitoring the pH and stirring it occasionally. It smelled…interesting, to say the least. Like a weird, cheesy sock. Seriously.

Fingers Crossed

After about a month (and a lot of hoping I wasn’t creating some biohazard), I decided it was “done”. I filtered the mixture through some cheesecloth to get rid of the leftover wool bits. What I was left with was a cloudy, brownish liquid. This, my friends, was my “bioactive keratin ferment”.

Did I test it on myself? You bet. I dabbed a tiny bit on my skin and waited. No explosions, no rashes, nothing. I even put some in my hair after a shower. Honestly, I can’t say I noticed any miracle transformations. My hair felt…maybe a little softer? My skin felt…pretty much the same.

The Verdict (So Far)

So, was it a success? I’m still not sure. I definitely created something. Whether it’s truly “bioactive” or beneficial is still up in the air. I might need to tweak the process, try different fermenting agents, or maybe just accept that I’m not a cosmetic chemist. But hey, it was a fun experiment, and I learned a thing or two about fermentation (and patience!). I’ll probably keep messing around with it, just to see what happens. Who knows, maybe I’ll stumble upon the next big beauty secret…or at least a decent hair conditioner.
