Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Joan Didion’s style forever. Not just her writing, but her look. That effortless cool, you know? So, I decided to try and, like, channel my inner Didion for a week. It was…interesting.

Day 1: The Hunt
First, I raided my closet. I was looking for anything remotely Didion-esque. Think simple, classic, a little bit oversized. I found a few things:
- A black turtleneck – score!
- A pair of straight-leg jeans that were a bit too big – perfect.
- A long, flowy scarf – could work.
I also went thrifting, cause, duh, Didion vibes are all about vintage. I didn’t find much, just an old pair of sunglasses that kind of looked like hers. They were a little crooked, but whatever.
Day 2-6: The Experiment
So, I wore some variation of that outfit every day. Black turtleneck, jeans, scarf, weird sunglasses. I tried to keep my hair simple, just kind of pulled back. No makeup, except maybe some lip balm. I felt…plain. But also kind of…chic? It was weird.
The hardest part was, I kept wanting add colourfull clothes or a bold bags. Old habits die hard, I guess. I was taking a tone of pictures but i just looked normal, nothing speical.
Day 7: The Verdict
Okay, so I didn’t magically transform into Joan Didion. Shocker, I know. But it was a fun experiment. I realized that her style is less about the actual clothes and more about the attitude. It’s about being comfortable, confident, and not trying too hard. I get that now.

I’m probably not going to wear that exact outfit every day, but I definitely learned something. I might try to incorporate more simple, classic pieces into my wardrobe. And maybe I’ll keep the crooked sunglasses. They kind of grew on me.
