Alright folks, let’s get into this weird little project I tackled yesterday. Woke up feeling kinda spooky and decided it was the perfect day to make something disturbing outta an old Furby. Found one gathering dust in the attic. Poor thing.
Ripping the Innards Out
First step? Absolute destruction. Grabbed a screwdriver and just started prying its plastic face off. It was creepier inside than out, honestly. Little motors and wires everywhere. Yanked the batteries out immediately – no chance of it randomly talking in the night, thank you very much.
Then came the gutting. Just tore everything electronic out with my hands. All the gears, that weird speaker, even its little brain chip thing. Left it basically a hollow plastic shell. Felt kinda bad, but also… not?
Creating the Stretchy Nightmare Skin
Went rummaging for materials. Found some old, super stretchy tights – the kind you’d wear under a skirt? Fishnet ones would probably look cooler, but gotta use what you got. Cut off one leg – perfect Furby body sock. Slid it over the hollow shell. Looked weird straight away, like a gremlin mummy.
Stretching it properly was awkward. Pulled it real tight around the back opening I’d made. Used a hot glue gun – carefully! – to kinda tack it into place on the plastic lip inside the shell. Burned my finger twice. Worth it for the spook factor.
Stuffing the Monster & Facing Demons
Time to give it a body. Didn’t have proper stuffing, so I sacrificed an old pillow. Ripped it open, pulled out handfuls of that fluffy white stuff. Started cramming it hard into the Furby shell through the back opening. Shoved so much in there, the tights skin stretched waaaay out. It turned into this bizarre, bloated, stretchy worm creature. Intentionally overstuffed it – the more distorted, the better.
Closing it up was messy. Tried pinning the tights with safety pins at the back where the shell opens. They kept popping off because of the pressure. Gave up and just globbed a massive amount of hot glue over the opening to seal the fabric directly to the plastic. Looks gnarly, adds to the charm.
Finishing the Horror
The eyes were terrifyingly wrong on the original, but I needed worse. Found some big, cheap plastic googly eyes in my craft bin. Glued them right over where the Furby’s eye sensors used to be. Slightly crooked because of the stretched fabric? Perfect. Looks completely unhinged.
Left its original beak. Somehow looks even creepier now on this stretched-out monstrosity. Like a deranged parrot ghost. Posed it in various disturbing ways. My favourite? Laying it flat so it looks like a Furby puddle. Job done. It sits on my shelf now, silently judging me. Best terrible decision I made all week.
