You ever just get stuck on a certain look? Lately, for me, it’s been all about Sharon Tate. Her whole 60s style is just… it. So, I thought, ‘Hey, why not try and nail down some of that vibe myself?’ And that’s pretty much how my afternoon went, a little personal project.

Getting into the Sharon Tate Vibe
So, I’ve been on a real 60s kick lately, you know? And Sharon Tate, man, her style was just something else. Effortlessly cool. I figured, why not try and recreate some of that magic myself? Just a little experiment in my bedroom, nothing too serious. I wasn’t aiming for a Halloween costume, more like, could I actually pull off elements of it?
The Deep Dive (aka Pinterest Overload)
First things first, I went down the rabbit hole of images. We’re talking loads of pictures – movie stills, candid shots, the whole deal. Her eye makeup is the big one, right? That defined crease, the big lashes, the almost doe-eyed look. And then the clothes: mini dresses, A-line skirts, those cute little headbands sometimes. It all looked so simple on her, but you know it’s never that simple.
Scavenger Hunt: Wardrobe & Makeup Bag
Next, I had to see what I could actually work with. I wasn’t about to go on a massive shopping spree for this little experiment. So, I dug through my closet. Found a couple of short-ish dresses that could pass, maybe. One old shift dress I forgot I even had – score! For makeup, I pretty much had the basics. Black eyeliner was key, obviously. And I had some pale eyeshadows that I thought might work for that wide-eyed look.
- Found a simple black mini-dress. Figured it was a good base.
- Grabbed my trusty liquid eyeliner, the one that promises precision but usually delivers a wobbly line on the first try.
- Unearthed some false lashes I bought ages ago and never used. Today was the day, apparently!
The Attempt: Hair & Makeup Mayhem
Alright, this is where it got tricky. The hair, oh god, the hair. She often had that soft, voluminous, slightly flipped-out style. My hair is pretty flat usually, so this was an uphill battle. I tried to get some volume at the crown with a teasing comb. Let’s just say my teasing skills need serious work. It was a bit of a bird’s nest at one point, not gonna lie, and my arms were aching from holding the hairspray can. My cat, who was supervising from the doorway, looked thoroughly unimpressed with the whole ordeal and the cloud of hairspray.
Then, the makeup. That cut crease eyeliner? Took me about three tries per eye, no joke. My bathroom counter looked like an art project gone wrong. I kept smudging it, making one wing thicker than the other, wiping it off, starting again. It’s way harder than it looks in those quick online tutorials! But I persevered, because I was committed at this point. Piled on the mascara, then attempted to stick on those falsies – another adventure in itself, glue everywhere except where it was supposed to be for a minute. A bit of pale lipstick, and I called it done.

The Reveal (to Myself, Mostly)
So, after all that effort, I stood back and looked in the mirror. Was I a dead ringer for Sharon Tate? Absolutely not, let’s be real here. My face is my face. But, you know what? It wasn’t half bad! The vibe was definitely there. I felt kinda… different. More put-together, maybe even a bit glamorous, in a 60s way. It was fun to play dress-up, even if it was just for myself in my own house. I snapped a few selfies, obviously. Still debating if those will ever see the light of day.
It’s funny how a certain style can totally change how you feel. Definitely got a new appreciation for the effort that went into those iconic looks. It’s not just throwing on a dress; it’s the whole package – the hair, the precise makeup. Might try some other elements of her style another day when I have more patience. Perhaps those babydoll dresses, if I can find one that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing a very fancy pillowcase.
