Who owns the Maltese Falcon yacht?
Alright, so this question popped into my head the other day – who actually owns that massive, sleek beast, the Maltese Falcon? You see these pictures, you hear the stories, and you just gotta wonder, right? It’s not like they list the owner’s name on the side of the hull in big, friendly letters.

So, I did what most folks do. I fired up my computer, cracked my knuckles, and started poking around online. My first thought was, “This is gonna be easy, it’s a famous boat!” Well, yes and no. Lots of info about the yacht itself – how it was built by Perini Navi, those crazy DynaRig sails, how it cost an arm and a leg. Super impressive stuff, no doubt. But the owner? That was a bit more like trying to find a specific fish in the ocean.
I remember reading about Tom Perkins, the original guy. He was a big deal in tech, venture capital, that sort of thing. Sounded like a character. He was the one who had the vision for it, poured millions into making it happen. A lot of the older articles and forum posts, they all point to him. But then I saw he passed away a few years back. So, obviously, it wasn’t him anymore. That’s where the trail gets a little murky, or at least, it takes a turn.
Digging a bit deeper…
You know how it is with these things. Rich people, they like their privacy. Can’t blame ’em, I suppose. If I had a boat like that, I wouldn’t want every Tom, Dick, and Harry knowing my business either. So, information about sales of these mega-yachts isn’t always shouted from the rooftops.
I started sifting through yachting news sites, the kind that talk about charters and sales. You start to see whispers, mentions of a sale after Mr. Perkins passed. The name that kept cropping up was Elena Ambrosiadou. Now, I’d never heard of her before, to be honest. Turns out, she’s big in the hedge fund world, co-founded IKOS Asset Management. Okay, that starts to make sense. You need some serious coin to not just buy, but also to maintain a floating palace like the Maltese Falcon.

It’s not like I found a bill of sale with her name on it, you know? It’s more like putting pieces of a puzzle together from various articles and industry chatter. Most sources after around 2009 or so, when the sale reportedly happened, seemed to point in her direction. She apparently bought it for a figure that, well, let’s just say it’s a lot of zeros.
This whole process reminded me of when I was trying to track down who owned a particular classic car I saw at a show. No plaque, no owner in sight. Just the car. You end up talking to people, searching obscure forums, trying to connect the dots. It’s a bit of detective work, really, even for something as seemingly public as a giant yacht.
So, the consensus, from what I could gather through my digital sleuthing, is that Elena Ambrosiadou is the current custodian of this incredible vessel. It’s funny, the lives these super-rich folks lead. One day you’re managing billions, the next you’re sailing the Med on one of the world’s most iconic yachts.
Anyway, that was my little journey into figuring out who owns the Maltese Falcon. Just a bit of online digging and connecting the dots. Still an amazing piece of engineering, whoever’s lucky enough to call it theirs!
