Alright, let’s yak about this Steve Lacy fella and what kinda music he makes. Folks call it “genre,” but to me, it’s just the kinda tunes he plays. So, what’s Steve Lacy’s genre all about?

What Music Genre is Steve Lacy? His Unique Style Explained

Well, they say he’s an American singer and songwriter, makin’ somethin’ they call “RB” music. Now, I ain’t never heard of RB before, but I guess it’s what the young folks listen to these days. They also say it’s “alternative” RB, which sounds fancy, but I reckon it just means it’s a little different from the usual stuff. He throws in some indie rock and popfunk too. Like mixin’ cornmeal and flour, I guess. Makes it somethin’ new.

  • Steve Lacy’s main genre: RB (whatever that is!)
  • Other influences: Indie rock, Popfunk

This Steve fella, he’s got some heroes, just like everyone else. He likes some folks named Thundercat, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Erykah Badu, Pharrell Williams, and The Neptunes. Big names, I hear. Sounds like he’s listenin’ to all sorts of music, which probably why his own stuff sounds so… different.

Now, tryin’ to pin down exactly what kinda music Steve Lacy makes is like tryin’ to catch a greased pig. It’s got a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Some say there’s disco and funk in there, especially when he plays that guitar and bass. I remember disco, back in my day. Lots of thumpin’ and folks dancin’ in funny clothes. Maybe Steve’s music is like that, but with a twist. He definitely likes that bass, you can hear it thumpin’ away in his songs.

He uses all sorts of fancy gizmos to make his music too. They got these computer programs now, like Ableton, where you can make drum beats and all sorts of sounds. But he also uses somethin’ called GarageBand, which I hear is on them Apple phones. Imagine that, makin’ music on a phone! He plays the bass and guitar himself, and sings too. And get this, they say he uses somethin’ called a “Boss ME-80.” Sounds like a big ol’ machine to me. I bet it makes all sorts of crazy noises. He’s like a handyman, mixing and matching until it sounds just right. Experimentin’, they call it.

So, to sum it up, Steve Lacy’s music ain’t just one thing. It’s RB, but not like the stuff you hear on the radio. It’s got some rock and funk, maybe even some disco. He’s takin’ all sorts of sounds and mixin’ ’em up, makin’ somethin’ new and different. It’s like a patchwork quilt, all different pieces but it’s still a quilt at the end of the day. That’s what makes it interestin’, I guess. Keeps you on your toes, never knowin’ what kinda sound you’re gonna hear next. It’s got a soul to it, you can feel that.

And that’s about all I can tell you about this Steve Lacy and his music. It’s complicated stuff, but if you like a little bit of everything, you might just like his music. Go on and give it a listen, see what you think. Just don’t expect it to sound like anything you’ve ever heard before. It’s his own special sound, this “genre” thing people talk so much about.

I heard one of his songs on the radio the other day, while I was waitin’ for the doctor. It had a catchy tune, I’ll give him that. Made me tap my feet a little. But I still don’t know what kinda music it was. Maybe that’s the point, though. Maybe it don’t need a name. Maybe it’s just… Steve Lacy music. And that’s good enough for me.

Anyways, I hope that helped you understand what kinda music this Steve fella plays. It ain’t easy, but I tried my best. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about music has made me hungry.

One more thing, he’s apparently pretty popular with the youngsters, always seeing his name pop up on them social media things my grandkids are always on about. Guess he must be doin’ something right. They say he’s got a unique sound, and I reckon that’s true. You can tell it’s him playin’ right away, even if you’ve never heard the song before. That’s somethin’ special, ain’t it? To have a sound all your own.
