My Journey with the Saint Laurent Lou Lou
Alright, so I’d been thinking for ages about getting a really solid, kinda classic bag. You know, one you can grab most days but still feels a bit special. I kept seeing this quilted bag around, the one with the YSL logo, and it stuck in my head.

Did a bit of digging online, just looking at pictures and what people were saying. The Saint Laurent Lou Lou just kept popping up. It looked plush, not too stiff like some other fancy bags. People seemed to really like the feel of it. I figured, okay, this looks like a contender. Less structured than some, which I liked the idea of.
Decided I needed to see it for real. Went down to one of their stores. It’s different when you can actually touch things, right? They had a few sizes and colours. I spent a while just holding them, opening and closing them. The leather felt ridiculously soft, seriously puffy. Liked that immediately. Went for the medium size in black with the gold hardware. Seemed like the safest bet, the one I’d use the most.
Getting it Home and First Look
Took it home. The whole unboxing thing is always a bit fun. Nice heavy box, decent dust bag. Pulled the bag out. Yep, still felt super soft. The chevron quilting is really distinct. That big YSL logo on the front feels heavy, proper metal, not plasticky. The chain strap felt pretty solid too, decent weight to it. Checked all the seams, inside lining, everything looked put together well. No weird smells or anything, just that leather scent.
Using the Bag Day-to-Day
Started using it pretty much straight away. What fits inside? Okay, here’s the real stuff:

- My phone (just a standard size iPhone)
- A small cardholder thingy
- Keys
- Lip balm and a lipstick
- Small bottle of hand sanitizer
- Sometimes my sunglasses, if I ditch the bulky case
It’s not massive, it’s a medium bag, but it holds the essentials without bulging weirdly. The magnetic clasp is strong enough, snaps shut easily.
Carrying it is comfy enough. Mostly wear it on my shoulder. The chain can be doubled up for a shorter length or worn long. It does sit pretty well. Tried it crossbody sometimes, it works, though the chain sits a bit high on me maybe (I’m average height). The chain itself hasn’t been too annoying, doesn’t dig in too badly unless I’ve loaded the bag up with rocks, which I haven’t.
How It’s Holding Up
Been using it regularly for a while now. The leather, because it’s so soft, does feel like it might be prone to scratches if you’re careless. I try not to just chuck it around. So far, so good, no major dings. The corners look okay still. The puffiness hasn’t deflated, which was something I wondered about. It still looks quite plush. The hardware is holding up too, no weird tarnishing on the gold yet.
Final Thoughts

So, the Lou Lou. It’s definitely become a go-to bag for me. It hits that sweet spot – looks smart, feels luxurious, but isn’t so precious that you’re scared to take it out. It genuinely goes with almost everything, from super casual jeans to something a bit more dressed up. It’s just easy. Was it a splurge? Yeah, obviously. But seeing how much I actually use it, I feel okay about it. It does the job, looks good doing it, and feels nice to carry. Pretty happy with this one, honestly.
