Alright, buckle up, because I’m about to walk you through my little project: the “plain jane rolex blue face.” Sounds fancy, right? Well, it’s not as complicated as it seems. I’m just sharing my personal experience and what I learned along the way.

So, it all started when I saw this Rolex with a blue dial. I wasn’t looking for a Rolex, trust me. I just stumbled upon it, and the blue just popped. I mean, really popped. I had to have it, or at least, I had to try and get something that looked like it without breaking the bank.

First things first: Research. I spent a solid week just looking at different blue dials. I wanted that specific shade – not too dark, not too light, just that perfect, almost electric, blue. Found a bunch of options online, mostly aftermarket dials for Seiko mods and stuff like that. I even watched a few videos about how to swap out a watch dial.

Then came the hard part: finding a watch to put it in. I didn’t want to mess with a real Rolex (obviously!). So, I started searching for affordable watches with similar dimensions and a simple case. I ended up snagging a used Seiko 5 off eBay. It was cheap, reliable, and had the right size case.

  • Step 1: Disassembly. This was the scariest part. I had never taken apart a watch before. I watched a couple more videos, got myself a cheap watch repair kit from Amazon, and just went for it. Slowly, carefully, I removed the hands, then the old dial. Man, those tiny screws are easy to lose!
  • Step 2: Dial Swap. The new blue dial fit perfectly! I secured it with dial dots, little sticky things that hold the dial in place. Made sure it was aligned correctly.
  • Step 3: Hands and Reassembly. Putting the hands back on was a real pain. They kept falling off, or I’d bend them trying to press them on. Finally got them on, aligned them correctly, and started putting everything back together.

It took me a whole afternoon, a lot of sweat, and a few curse words, but I finally got it all back together. And guess what? It worked! The blue dial looked fantastic. It wasn’t exactly the same as the Rolex, but it was close enough for me.

The Result

The “plain jane rolex blue face” was born. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s a cool, affordable watch that I built myself. I’m pretty proud of it. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it looks awesome. I wear it all the time. It just goes to show you, with a little bit of research, a few cheap tools, and a whole lot of patience, you can create something pretty cool.

Would I do it again? Definitely. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about watches in the process. Plus, now I have a unique watch that no one else has. Maybe next time, I’ll try something even more ambitious. Who knows?

Anyway, that’s my story. Hope you enjoyed it! Maybe it’ll inspire you to try a similar project. Just remember to take your time, do your research, and don’t be afraid to mess up. That’s how you learn.
