So, I heard about this new Longchamp collaboration that was dropping. Saw some buzz online, pictures floating around. You know how it is with these things.

I looked through the preview pics they put out. One of the Le Pliage bags caught my eye, had a different kind of pattern than the usual plain colors or the older designs. Thought to myself, “Alright, maybe I’ll try and get this one.” Seemed like a cool twist on a classic.

Getting Ready for the Drop

I marked the date. Decided I’d try online first. Seemed easiest, right? Avoid the store queues and all that hassle. I figured I’d just log on when it launched, click a few buttons, and be done with it.

The actual process was… well, different.

  • Launch day arrived. I was there, right on time, hitting refresh on their website.
  • Predictably, the site slowed right down. Crawling. Took ages just to load the collection page.
  • Found the bag I wanted. Clicked add to cart. More waiting. Spinner icon just mocking me.
  • Finally got it in the cart. Felt like a small victory already.
  • Headed to checkout. Filled in my details, feeling pretty good.
  • Clicked the final ‘pay’ button. And then… error message. Or worse, the page just hung there.
  • Tried again. Same thing. By the time the site vaguely stabilized, I went back to the product page. Sold Out. Of course.

Thinking It Over

Honestly, I just felt a bit deflated. All that effort, the refreshing, the waiting, for absolutely nothing. I briefly thought about trying my luck at a physical store, but then I remembered the scenes from previous collaborations – people queuing up super early, the mad rush. Nah, not for me. Not for a bag.

It got me thinking about these collaborations generally. Longchamp does them quite often now. They definitely generate excitement, get people talking. But sometimes it feels less about the actual design and more about the hype, the exclusivity. They create this sense of urgency, make you feel like you have to get it now.

Looking back at the pictures of that specific collection later, when I wasn’t caught up in the ‘must-buy’ moment, the designs seemed… okay. Some interesting ideas, for sure. But was that one bag really worth the online battle or queuing for hours? For me, the answer was no.

In the end, I didn’t get anything from that collaboration. And you know what? It’s fine. I’ve still got my trusty older Longchamp bags that do the job perfectly well. These special editions are fun to look at, but the whole process around acquiring them can be a real turn-off sometimes. Just feels like manufactured demand. Maybe I’m just getting old, but I prefer things a bit more straightforward.
