Trying Things Out Again
Alright, so I decided to dive back into this thing. You know how sometimes the first attempt doesn’t quite land right? That was me with the initial setup, let’s call it the first ‘explorer’ run. It worked, kinda, but it felt clunky, messy. Things weren’t where I wanted them, and performance was just… meh. It bugged me for a while.
So, this week, I thought, screw it, let’s do ‘explorer 2’. A proper go this time. First thing I did was rip out the old stuff. Completely. Didn’t want any leftover bits causing trouble. Found the config files, the cache, everything, and just wiped them clean. Starting fresh felt necessary.
Getting Hands Dirty
Then came the reinstall or reconfiguration, depending on what you’re dealing with. This time, I didn’t rush. I actually read the prompts, looked at the options. Last time? Probably just clicked through everything on default.
Key steps I took this round:
- Made sure the core installation was clean.
- Specifically looked for the settings that annoyed me before – I think it was the way it handled network drives and indexing. Tackled those first.
- Spent a good hour just tweaking the appearance and layout. I need things visually organized my way, otherwise, I just can’t work efficiently. Moved panels around, changed color themes, the whole nine yards.
- Set up the search parameters carefully. The default search was useless last time, pulling up all sorts of irrelevant junk. This time, I defined the scope much more tightly.
Hitting Snags and Pushing Through
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, of course. Is it ever? Ran into a weird issue where some file previews weren’t generating. Spent maybe twenty minutes digging through forums and obscure settings menus. Found a checkbox buried three levels deep that needed ticking. Why they hide stuff like that, I’ll never know. It’s frustrating when simple things become a treasure hunt.
Also had to manually configure connections to a couple of my older devices. The auto-detect just wasn’t picking them up reliably. A bit tedious, but got it done.
The Result? Better, Much Better.
After all that fiddling, I started using it properly. Moved files, did some heavy searching, organized a bunch of project folders that were a total disaster zone before. And you know what? It actually feels right this time.
It’s faster, definitely more stable than my first attempt. Things are where I expect them to be. The search actually finds what I’m looking for quickly. It’s still not some magic bullet, there are always little quirks, but the core experience is solid now. It integrates way better into how I actually work day-to-day.
So yeah, ‘explorer 2’ was worth the effort. Sometimes you just gotta circle back and give it another, more careful shot. Glad I did.
