So, I was flicking through channels the other day, you know, landed on one of her old movies. And it just struck me, again, how she always looks so… put together, but in a really chill way. Not fussy at all. I got this idea, like, could I even try to capture a bit of that? Just for myself, for everyday stuff.
Figuring Out The Vibe
First thing, I realized it wasn’t about fancy brands or anything. It seemed more about classic pieces. Like a good pair of jeans, a simple top. But the fit, that’s the tricky part. It always looks effortless on her, never sloppy, never too tight. So, I thought, okay, let’s start there.
I went through my own wardrobe. Disaster. My jeans were mostly skinny ones from years ago, or so worn out they were just sad. My white shirts? Either too stiff, like something for an office I don’t work in anymore, or they’d shrunk weirdly. Nothing had that relaxed, cool feel I was aiming for.
The Hunt Begins
Alright, new mission: a shopping trip. But not for anything expensive. I hit up a couple of those secondhand places, you know, thrift stores. I was on the lookout for two main things: a really good, soft white button-down shirt, maybe a linen blend or soft cotton, and some decent blue jeans. Not mom jeans, not super trendy, just… classic straight leg or maybe a tiny bootcut.
- The shirt hunt: This took a while. Tried on so many. Some were huge, some were weirdly yellowed. Then, tucked away, I found this men’s shirt, actually. Looked like it had been washed a million times, super soft. Rolled up the sleeves, perfect.
- The jeans quest: Even tougher. You know how jeans shopping is. I must have tried on twenty pairs. Too low, too high, too… sparkly? Finally, found a pair, dark wash, simple cut, comfortable. They just felt right.
I also noticed she often wears simple leather belts, or loafers. I had an old belt that worked, and some comfy flat shoes. So, I wasn’t trying to buy a whole new persona, just key pieces.
Putting It Together (Sort Of)
Back home, I tried the shirt and jeans combo. Tucked the shirt in loosely at the front, left it out at the back. Rolled up the sleeves a bit more. And you know what? It wasn’t like, “Wow, I’m a movie star.” Of course not. But it felt… different. More confident, strangely. Like I wasn’t trying too hard, but still looked like I’d made an effort.
The main thing I learned? It’s less about the exact clothes and more about the attitude and the fit. Comfortable, confident, not overdone. That’s the core of it, I reckon. It’s not a costume. It’s finding stuff that lets you feel like the best, most relaxed version of yourself.
So yeah, that was my little experiment. Still working on it, not every day is a “Julia Roberts style” day, obviously. But it was fun to break down something I admired and try to bring a little of it into my own ordinary life. And hey, I got a great new shirt out of it.
