Okay, so I’ve always been super into fashion, and the VS show? Iconic. I decided, “Why not try to figure out how they cast those models?” Seemed like a fun little project. No, I’m not trying to be a VS model, just curious about the whole process, you know?
First, I just started googling. Like, a lot. “VS fashion show casting calls,” “how to become a VS angel,” stuff like that. I figured there had to be some info out there, even if it was just old news articles or blog posts.
I dug through tons of stuff. Lots of “get the look” makeup tutorials, which, okay, helpful for other things, but not what I needed. Then I started finding some older casting call notices, mostly from like, random modeling agencies. Nothing directly from VS, obviously.
My “Research” Process (aka Googling Like Crazy)
- Started with broad searches.
- Narrowed it down to specific years (like, “VS casting 2016”).
- Checked out modeling agency websites.
- Read a bunch of articles about past shows.
- Watched some behind-the-scenes videos (those were actually pretty interesting!).
The videos were a goldmine, kinda. They showed glimpses of the casting process – the lines of girls, the judging panels, the whole shebang. It looked INTENSE. Not gonna lie, a little intimidating, even just watching it.
From what I could piece together, it seemed like a multi-step process. First, you probably need to be with a pretty major agency. Then, there are these open calls, where hundreds (maybe thousands?) of girls show up. Then, callbacks, and more callbacks, until they whittle it down to the final lineup.
I even found some interviews with former VS models. They talked about how nerve-wracking the whole thing was. Standing there in your underwear, being judged by all these important people… I can’t even imagine.
So, while I didn’t find like, a step-by-step guide published by Victoria’s Secret (duh), I got a pretty good general idea. It’s all about being with the right agency, having the “look” they want that year, and surviving the insane pressure of the casting process. Makes you appreciate those models even more, honestly.
It is not easy, and it looks very stressful. After my searching, It is apperent that I don’t want to be a model.
