Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with finding the PERFECT red lipstick lately. It’s, like, a quest, you know? I wanted to document my whole journey, from total newbie to (hopefully) red-lip pro.
First Steps: Total Confusion
I started by just walking into a store. Big mistake. HUGE. There were, like, a million different reds. I grabbed a few that looked pretty in the tube, tried them on my hand, and…nope. They looked totally different on my skin! Some were way too orange, some were too pink, some were just…blah.
Digging Deeper: Undertones
Then I started reading stuff online. Apparently, undertones are EVERYTHING. I had no idea what my undertone was, So I learned that there are these categories for red lipsticks:
- Cool Reds
- Warm Reds
- Neutral Reds
I did the whole “look at your veins” trick (mine looked kinda blue-ish, so I guessed cool?), and figured out I probably needed a blue-based red. Back to the store I went!
The Trials (and Tribulations)
This time, I focused on reds that looked a little more…berry-ish? I swatched a bunch on my arm (which, by the way, ended up looking totally crazy). I found one from a random brand . It was a deeper, almost wine-colored red. I tried it on, and…BINGO! It actually looked GOOD.
Then I get a new idea and give another try and I tested out a brighter, cherry red. Another win! It made my teeth look whiter, which was a bonus.
The Final Verdict (for Now!)
So, after all that, I’ve ended up with two red lipsticks that I really like: a deep, cool-toned red for when I’m feeling dramatic, and a brighter one for everyday wear. I’m still learning about application (lining is HARD, you guys), but I’m feeling way more confident about rocking a red lip now. It’s amazing how much of a difference finding the right shade makes!
The journey isn’t over, though. I’m sure I’ll discover even more amazing reds in the future. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my little red lipstick collection. Stay tuned for more makeup adventures!
