Timex Expedition Watch Battery Change: Dont Pay a Shop, Do It Yourself

Well, my Timex Expedition watch, it just stopped tickin’. Figured it was time to swap out that watch battery. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’m gonna tell you what I did.

Timex Expedition Watch Battery Change: Dont Pay a Shop, Do It Yourself

Timex Expedition Watch Battery

First thing’s first, you gotta figure out what kinda Timex Expedition watch you got. Some got them little screws on the back, others, well, they don’t. Mine, it didn’t have no screws, so that made things a bit easier, I reckon. But if you got them screws, you gonna need one of them tiny screwdrivers, the kind you use for eyeglasses, maybe.

Changing the Battery

Gettin’ that back off, that’s the tricky part. I used a little butter knife, real careful-like. Just gotta pry it open a bit. Don’t go forcing it, you might break somethin’.

  • Find that little notch on the back of your Timex Expedition watch.
  • Wedge that knife in there, real gentle.
  • Give it a little twist, and pop, it should come off.

Now, once you get that back off, you’ll see the watch battery. It’s a little round fella, usually silver. Mine was held in place by this tiny little piece, I don’t even know what you call it. I think it was a T shaped bracket. Whatever it was, it was held down by a screw. It was so small I almost missed it. I used my tiny screwdriver to loosen it. Be careful not to lose it when you take it off. Then, I lifted the T shaped bracket up. And, there it was. The old watch battery was right there.

I used the tip of my knife to pop out the old Timex Expedition watch battery. It was held in place with a little clip. You can use your fingers if you want. I just figured the knife was easier. I think the old battery was stuck in there pretty good.

Finding the Right Battery

Before you even start, you gotta make sure you got the right watch battery. You can check your old one, or look it up somewhere. I think mine was a CR2016, but don’t quote me on that. They ain’t too expensive, a few dollars, maybe. You can get ’em at most stores that sell batteries, I reckon. I went to the general store up the road, and they had a whole bunch of ’em. Just make sure you get the right one.

Putting in the New Battery

Once you got the new watch battery, you just gotta pop it in where the old one was. Make sure the shiny side is facing up, that’s important. Then, you gotta put that little cover back on, if your watch has one, and screw it down tight, if you have screws. I put the T bracket back over the new battery. Then, I put that little screw back in and tightened it down. Again, be careful. It is a small screw. And, don’t overtighten it.

Then, you just gotta put the back of the watch back on. Just line it up and press it down until it clicks. And that’s it, you’re done!

Timex Expedition Watch Battery Replacement

Now, some folks say you gotta take your watch to a professional to get the watch battery changed. They say it costs a lot of money, upwards of $60 I heard. They even say some of them fancy watches cost almost $100 to change the battery. Well, I ain’t got that kinda money. And honestly, it ain’t that hard to do it yourself. Just gotta be careful, that’s all. If you ask me, replacing the battery yourself will save you a lot of money.

It is not hard to change a Timex Expedition watch battery. I mean, if this old lady can do it, you can do it, too. I’m just sayin’. It took me a few tries, but I finally got it. And, my watch is workin’ again. So, I saved myself some money. And, you can, too. You just need the right battery, and a little bit of patience.

Is it Worth It?

Some people might say it’s not worth it. They say you can mess up your watch if you don’t know what you are doing. But, I think as long as you are careful, you will be okay. My watch is workin’ just fine. And, I didn’t spend a fortune gettin’ the battery changed.

Timex Expedition Watch Battery Change: Dont Pay a Shop, Do It Yourself

I seen some folks say it costs around 5 to 20 bucks to buy a new watch battery. But, if you go to a store to get it replaced, it might cost you a lot more. I heard some of them places charge a lot to replace a watch battery. Especially if your watch is one of them fancy ones. But, for a Timex Expedition watch, it shouldn’t be that much. Still, if you do it yourself, you only gotta pay for the battery.

So, there you have it. That’s how I changed the watch battery in my Timex Expedition watch. It ain’t rocket science, just gotta be careful and patient. And if you mess up, well, you can always try again. Or, I guess you can take it to one of them professionals. But, I’d try it yourself first. You might surprise yourself. And save yourself some money, too!
