The Ultimate Guide to Social Media Pew (Get Your Questions Answered)

This here social media thing, it’s like the village gossip, but bigger, way bigger. Everybody’s got their noses in them phones, thumbing away. Pew! Like some kinda magic box, I reckon. They say it’s for staying connected, whatever that means. Back in my day, connected meant yelling across the field or walking over to Mabel’s for a cup of coffee.

My grandkids, they’re all over this social media. They show me pictures of food, fancy food, not like the good stew I make. And videos of folks dancing like they got ants in their pants. Pew! It’s a whole different world in that little box, I tell ya.

They say you can find anything on this social media. Lost a cat? Put it on social media. Need a recipe for pickled beets? Social media. Want to see what your cousin’s having for breakfast on the other side of the world? That’s right, social media! It’s got more stuff than old Mr. Johnson’s general store, and that’s saying something.

Now, there’s different kinds of this social media, like flavors of hard candy. They got the Facebook, where folks share pictures of their grandkids and complain about the weather. Then there’s that YouTube thing, where you can watch folks do just about anything. Fixing cars, baking cakes, even talking about their feelings, like it’s a big town hall meeting. Pew! Can you believe it?

  • Facebook for the family photos.
  • YouTube for watching all kinds of things.
  • And a bunch of others I can’t keep track of.

Some folks, they make a living off this social media. They call them “influencers,” like they got some special power. They show off clothes, talk about makeup, play games. And people, they just eat it up. They buy what these influencers tell ’em to buy. It’s like that traveling salesman who used to come through town selling snake oil, only now he’s in everybody’s pocket, 24/7. Pew!

They say it’s important for businesses, too. Even old Farmer McGregor down the road, he’s got his chickens on social media. Says it helps him sell more eggs. I don’t know about all that, but if it gets folks to buy his eggs, more power to him. They are good eggs, I’ll give him that. But I reckon, if something is good people will know, no need to tell everyone on the phone.

This social media, it can be a good thing, I suppose. Helps folks stay in touch, learn new things, maybe even sell a few eggs. But it can also be a time waster, a place for showing off and spreading gossip faster than a wildfire in a dry field. Pew! And don’t even get me started on the arguing! Folks get all riled up over the silliest things. I saw a whole argument about the best way to peel a potato once. A potato!

My grandkids, they tell me I should get on this social media. “It’s the future, Grandma,” they say. Maybe so. But I think I’ll stick to my knitting and my garden for now. I can talk to my neighbors face-to-face, and that’s good enough for me. But you never know. I hear they got videos of cats playing the piano on there. Pew! That I might have to see.

Now, they say these young folks, they use social media to learn and talk. Like a big school yard, only you don’t get your knuckles rapped for talking in class. They talk about all sorts of things, this and that. The important thing is to be good, like your mama taught you. Don’t be spreading rumors and lies. That’s what matters. This social media, it is just a tool, like a hoe or a hammer. It is all about how you use it. Use it to do good, not bad. That’s what I always say.

And be careful what you put out there. Once it is on the social media, it is like letting a chicken out of the coop. You can’t get it back in. People will see, and they won’t forget, even if you do. Remember that.

This social media can be tricky, I tell ya. Like trying to catch a greased pig at the county fair. You gotta be careful. Don’t believe everything you see, and don’t share things that ain’t true. It’s like that old saying, “If you ain’t got nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing at all.” Only now it’s, “If you ain’t got nothing nice to post, don’t post nothing at all.” Pew!

So, there you have it. My two cents on this social media thing. It’s a big, noisy world out there in that little box. Just remember to be kind, be smart, and don’t spend all your time staring at that screen. There’s a whole world out there beyond that phone, just waiting to be seen. Go outside, get some fresh air, and maybe even plant a tomato or two. You might be surprised what you find when you’re not looking at social media. Pew! That’s all I got to say about that.
