You know what? This here new watch, they call it, uh, SLGC001. Fancy name, ain’t it? They say it’s some kinda “Tentagraph” thingamajig. Sounds like somethin’ you’d write with, but it’s a watch. Go figure!

This year, I hear tell, things are gonna be different. They always sayin’ that though. This watch, it’s supposed to be somethin’ special. It’s from that Grand Seiko bunch. Never heard of ’em ’til now, but they sure do make a fuss about this watch. This SLGC001, it’s their first one of these… these “chronograph” things. Like a stopwatch, I reckon, but all fancy-like and built into the watch itself.
They say it’s got some kinda special insides. “Caliber 9SC5” they call it. Sounds like a tractor part to me. But they say it’s based on another one, the “9SA5”. Don’t ask me what all that means. It’s all just numbers and letters to me. Just like alphabet soup, all jumbled up. All I know is they say it “beats” ten times a second. Fast little bugger, I guess. Keeps good time, I suppose.
- Ten beats every second. Quick!
- Got some fancy name: “Tentagraph”.
- “Evolution 9 Collection” – what a mouthful.
And this other thing, this “9S” thing from a few years back, 2020 it was. It beats real fast, too. Thirty-six thousand somethin’s per hour. And it runs for a good long while, three whole days, they say. Seventy-two hours without stoppin’. That’s a long time. Longer than I can go without a cup of coffee, that’s for sure!
Now, this SLGC001, this Tentagraph, they say it’s gonna let Grand Seiko fight with the other watch fellas. The ones that cost a lot of money. ‘Bout time, I reckon. Folks need choices, even for fancy watches. I wouldn’t spend that much on a watch, though. Could buy a whole lot of other things for that kinda money. Like that new dress I saw at the store.
They had some big, fancy party in Geneva, I hear. All about watches. Can you imagine? A whole party just for watches! That’s where they showed off this SLGC001, this Evolution 9 thing. Musta been somethin’. Lots of rich folks, I bet.

This fella, Akira somethin’, he’s the one who made this watch. Or “designed” it, as they say. Probably wears a suit and tie every day. Not like us folks. They say it runs for seventy-two hours. That’s a lot of hours! Can go a long time without windin’ it up. Don’t gotta worry about it stoppin’ on ya. Good thing, I suppose. My old clock, gotta wind it every day. Sometimes I forget.
It is their first one, you know, this kind of watch. Their first automatic chronograph. Big deal. I guess. This SLGC001 is special, they say. High-beat 36000. Whatever that means. It’s all Greek to me. But they made sure to tell everyone it is their first. This Tentagraph SLGC001. They sure are proud of it. Well, I guess that’s good.
This Tentagraph is their first ever fully mechanical chronograph. That’s what they say. Designed by that Yoshida fella. I reckon he knows a thing or two about watches. I still don’t know what’s so special about this SLGC001 thing. But folks seem to like it. And it keeps good time, I suppose. That’s what matters in a watch, ain’t it?
They put a lot of work into this watch, I can tell ya that. All those little parts movin’ around inside. Must be a real headache to put together. I wouldn’t have the patience for it. I’d rather be tendin’ to my garden, or maybe bake a pie. That’s more my speed.
They say this watch, this SLGC001, it is a big step for them. Grand Seiko. I guess it is a big step. Their first one like this. They can go against other watches now. I still say it costs too much money. But if you got the money, I guess it’s a nice watch. If you like that sort of thing. Me, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells the time just fine.

This SLGC001 is a part of their Evolution 9 Collection. Sounds important. Like it’s some kinda special club or somethin’. I don’t know much about these fancy watch collections. But it sounds fancy. I bet it costs a lot of money to be a part of that collection. Too rich for my blood.
