Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post, following all your instructions:

The Definitive Melee Top 100 2023: All Players Ranked Here!

Alright, so I decided to dive deep into the “Melee Top 100 2023” thing. I’m not a pro or anything, but I’ve been playing Melee casually for, like, forever, and I always get sucked into watching the big tournaments. This year, I figured, why not actually track this stuff?

First, I scoured the internet. I mean, I went everywhere. Reddit, Twitter, Smashboards, you name it. I was basically looking for any official-looking lists, rankings, or even just discussions about who was doing well.

My Tracking Progress

  • Initially, I just used a simple notepad.
  • It becomes difficult for tracking so many players.
  • I created some basic spreadsheets.

Next, I started watching a ton of tournaments. I mean, A TON. Genesis, Pound, CEO – all the big ones, plus a bunch of smaller locals and online events. I took notes on who was beating who, which characters were popping off, and any upsets or crazy comebacks.

Then came the really tedious part: trying to organize all this data. I made a basic spreadsheet, nothing fancy, just names, characters, and some notes on their performance. Honestly, it was a mess at first. I kept finding new tournaments, new players I hadn’t heard of, and I had to keep updating everything.

I also spent way too much time arguing with people online. Everyone has their own opinions, you know? Some guy would swear Player X was top 10, while another would say they were barely top 50. It was a headache, but it also helped me get different perspectives.

After a while, my spreadsheet started to look… kinda respectable. I added columns for tournament results, win/loss records, and even some notes on playstyles. It wasn’t perfect, but it was way better than just guessing.

Finally, I try to compare the information, and put the result in order, that’s my top 100 players of Melee in 2023!

It was a wild ride, and my list probably isn’t perfect, but hey, I tried my best. And I learned a lot about the competitive scene along the way. Maybe next year I’ll even try to predict the top 100 before the year starts. That sounds… terrifying, actually.
