Old me would’ve just picked a dinner spot and said “Let’s go here Friday?” Instead, I suggested based on what she already liked:
“Thai food & indie films? Kinda like a theme… How about lunch at your Thai haunt before catching a flick at the fest?”
Made it about her interests we’d just chatted about, not just some random place. She felt involved, not just ordered around. She loved the idea. Wasn’t me imposing, it was us sharing.
Way #3: Stop Overthinking It & Just Be There
Day of the date? Nerves kicked in. Started rehearsing jokes, panicking about parking. Then I remembered my own rules. Chilled out. Got there early, grabbed a coffee near the restaurant. Didn’t drill her with questions like an interview. Actually listened when she talked about the documentary she was excited to see after lunch.

Honestly? Yeah. Lunch was solid. Movie doc was intense, sparked good convo. Ended up walking around the festival stalls for an extra hour. No awkward goodbye hug – planned a second hike next weekend right there and then. No games.
