Red Undertone Hair Color Ideas: Hot Looks for 2024

Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “red undertone” hair color trend everywhere and I had to try it. I’m naturally a brunette, and I’ve dabbled with highlights before, but nothing this… bold. I was nervous, I’m not gonna lie!

Getting Started

First, I scoured the internet for inspiration. I mean, “red undertone” can mean so many things! Did I want a subtle auburn? A fiery copper? Or a deep, almost-black cherry? I ended up saving, like, a million pictures.

Then came the hard part: choosing the right dye. I didn’t want to go to a salon (too pricey!), so I was on my own. I spent ages in the hair dye aisle, comparing boxes, reading reviews, and generally feeling overwhelmed.

  • I considered a semi-permanent dye, just in case I hated it.
  • I also looked at color depositing conditioners.
  • Finally, I picked a permanent dye in a shade called “Dark Cherry Red.” It looked dark enough to blend with my natural color, but with a definite red shimmer.

The Dyeing Process

Okay, deep breaths. I put on an old t-shirt, gloves (very important!), and covered my bathroom in old towels. This stuff stains everything. I followed the instructions on the box very carefully. Mixing, applying, waiting… the waiting was the worst! I kept checking my hair every five minutes, convinced it was going to turn orange or something.

The Big Reveal

After what felt like forever, I rinsed out the dye. My heart was pounding! I towel-dried my hair and… oh my gosh. It was exactly what I wanted! My dark brown hair now had this gorgeous, deep red undertone. It wasn’t super in-your-face, but when the light hit it, BAM! Red shimmer. It looked amazing.

I’ve had it for a few weeks now, and I’m still obsessed. I get so many compliments! It washes easily, and it doesn’t bleed.

It’s definitely given my hair a little extra something-something, without being too drastic. If you’re thinking about trying the red undertone trend, I say go for it! Just do your research, choose the right shade, and be prepared for a bit of a messy process. You won’t regret it!
