Prada Crochet Tote Bag Dupes (Get the Look for Less with These Alternatives)

Hey everyone, I’ve been seeing these Prada crochet tote bags everywhere lately, and they’re so darn cute! But let’s be real, the price tag on those things is insane. So, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” And that’s exactly what I did. I’m here to share my little adventure with you all.

Prada Crochet Tote Bag Dupes (Get the Look for Less with These Alternatives)

First, I looked up a bunch of pictures online of the actual Prada bag. I wanted to get a good sense of the size, the shape, and the overall look. The real ones are made with raffia, which is like this straw material, but I wasn’t about to go out and buy that. I had a bunch of yarn lying around at home, and figured that would work just fine.

The Yarn

  • Chose a light beige, kind of like the color of the real Prada bag.
  • Made sure it was a thicker yarn, not the super thin stuff, because I wanted the bag to be sturdy.

Next, I searched for some crochet patterns online. I’m not a pro at crocheting, but I know the basics. I found a simple tote bag pattern that looked pretty similar to the Prada one. It was a rectangle shape, which is what I was going for. I also searched for crochet tutorials, just to make sure I had the basics down.

The Process

  • Started by making the bottom of the bag. It was just a big rectangle, crocheting back and forth in rows. I made sure to count my stitches carefully so it came out the right size.
  • Once the bottom was done, I started working on the sides. I just kept crocheting around and around, building up the walls of the bag. It was a bit repetitive, but I put on some music and just kind of zoned out.
  • For the handles, I crocheted two long strips and then attached them to the top of the bag. I made sure they were long enough to fit over my shoulder comfortably.

It took me a few days to finish the whole thing, working on it here and there when I had some free time. It wasn’t too hard, honestly. The hardest part was probably just making sure the sides were even. I had to undo a few rows a couple of times because I messed up the stitch count, but it wasn’t a big deal. The real ones have the Prada logo on the front, but I didn’t even try to replicate that. I just left it plain. It looks pretty good, even without the logo!

The whole thing cost me practically nothing, since I already had the yarn. And it was kind of fun to make, too! I’m not going to lie, I felt pretty proud of myself when I was finished. It might not be a real Prada, but it’s cute, it’s functional, and I made it myself. That’s what matters, right?

So, if you’re thinking about getting one of those Prada crochet tote bags, but don’t want to spend a fortune, I say give it a try yourself! It’s a fun little project, and you might surprise yourself with what you can create. Who knows, maybe I’ll try making another one in a different color. What do you guys think? Should I?
