Alright, so I found myself with some time on my hands the other day, and I figured, why not? Let’s go check out that Neiman Marcus over at the Somerset Collection in Troy. I’d heard people talk about it, you know, one of those high-end places. So, I hopped in the car and made my way over there.
Getting There and First Look
Driving to Somerset South wasn’t too bad, found a parking spot eventually. You know how mall parking can be. Walked in, and the mall itself is pretty big, lots of stores. I headed straight for Neiman Marcus. First thing I noticed? It’s definitely got that expensive vibe. Quiet, lots of shiny surfaces, and everything just looks… pricey.
I didn’t really have a plan, just wanted to see what it was all about. So, I started wandering. They’ve got different sections, like you’d expect. Women’s clothes here, men’s clothes there, shoes, bags, all that jazz.
What I Saw Inside
The clothes were, well, designer clothes. Lots of names I’ve seen in magazines. I picked up a tag or two just out of curiosity. Let’s just say you gotta have deep pockets for a lot of that stuff. A simple t-shirt could set you back a fair bit. It makes you wonder, you know? Who’s actually buying all this?
I walked through the shoe department. Man, some of those heels! And the men’s shoes too, very fancy. Lots of leather, lots of styles you don’t see every day in your average shoe store. Again, the prices were up there. It’s like a museum sometimes, you just look at things.
- Handbags: Saw a whole bunch of these. Big ones, small ones, every color. Some were behind glass, which tells you something.
- Cosmetics: This area was busy. Lots of counters, lots of people trying things out. Smelled pretty strong in there, all the perfumes.
- Men’s Section: Checked out some suits and jackets. Good quality stuff, you can tell. But again, you’re paying for the name and the quality, no doubt about it.
Staff and Atmosphere
The people working there were pretty chill. Nobody really bothered me, which I appreciate. I like to look around without someone breathing down my neck. A few “can I help you?” here and there, but mostly they let me browse. It wasn’t super crowded when I went, which was nice. Made it easier to just take my time and look around without feeling rushed.
The lighting is all very specific, makes everything look extra good. It’s definitely an experience more than just a regular shopping trip, if you know what I mean. You feel like you should be dressed up a bit just to walk around in there, even though I wasn’t.
Did I Buy Anything?
Nah, I wasn’t really there to buy. More just to observe, to see what it’s like. My wallet’s not quite ready for Neiman Marcus prices on a whim. It was interesting, though. Good to see how the other half shops, or at least, how a certain kind of person shops.
So, I spent maybe an hour or so just walking through, looking at things, taking it all in. It’s a big store. After a while, all the fancy stuff starts to look the same, if I’m being honest. Or maybe I just hit my limit for looking at things I wasn’t going to buy.
Wrapping Up the Visit
Headed out after that. Back into the main mall, then out to the car. It was an interesting little trip. If you’re into high fashion and designer labels, or just curious, it’s probably worth a walkthrough. For me, it was more of a “been there, done that” kind of thing. Good to see it once. Now I can say I’ve been to Neiman Marcus at Somerset. And that’s about it for that adventure.
