Pharrell Solid Color Superstars: Are They Worth the Hype?

Alright, so today I’m gonna break down how I tackled this “Pharrell Solid Color Superstars” project. It was a fun little dive into customizing kicks, and I learned a thing or two along the way.

Pharrell Solid Color Superstars: Are They Worth the Hype?

First things first, I grabbed a pair of all-white Adidas Superstars. You know, the classic ones. Making sure they were clean and ready to go is key, like, spotless. I used some shoe cleaner I had lying around and a toothbrush, gave ’em a good scrub, and let them dry completely. Gotta have a clean canvas, right?

Next up, decided on the colors. Pharrell’s collabs are known for those bold, solid hues. I ended up going with a vibrant teal. Looked online for some inspiration, color palettes and stuff, but ultimately went with my gut. Bought some Angelus leather paint – that’s the stuff you want, trust me. And some masking tape, brushes, and a finisher. Gathered all my supplies like a mad scientist.

The tedious part: masking. This is where patience comes in. I carefully taped off the rubber sole, the stripes (since I wanted to keep them white), and any other areas I didn’t want painted. Took my time, made sure the tape was really stuck down to avoid any bleeding. This step can make or break the whole thing, so don’t rush it!

Now for the fun part: painting! I started with a thin coat of the teal paint. Let it dry completely, then added another coat. And another. Ended up doing like three or four coats to get a really solid, even color. The key is thin coats and patience. If you glob it on, it’ll crack and look like garbage. Trust me, I learned that the hard way on another project once.

After the paint was totally dry – I’m talking overnight – I carefully peeled off the masking tape. This is the moment of truth! Thankfully, the masking held up pretty well, with only a few minor bleeds. I used a small brush and some white paint to touch up those little spots. Nobody’s perfect, right?

Finally, I applied a finisher. This helps seal the paint and protect it from scuffs and scratches. I used a matte finisher, since I wanted a more subtle look. Let that dry completely, and boom! Pharrell-esque solid color Superstars.

Lessons learned? Good masking is crucial. Thin coats are your friend. And don’t be afraid to experiment with colors. It’s just paint, you can always redo it! Overall, a fun project, and now I’ve got a custom pair of kicks that nobody else has. Worth the effort, I’d say.
