Omega Speedmaster 57 vs other watches? Quick comparison revealed!

Alright so today I finally got around to comparing my new Omega Speedmaster ’57 to some other watches I’ve got lying around. Wanted to see if it really stood out or not, you know? Just grabbed them all for a quick and dirty check-up.

Omega Speedmaster 57 vs other watches? Quick comparison revealed!

What I Actually Did

First thing, I cleared off my kitchen table. Good lighting there usually. Pulled out the boxes for my Omega Speedy ’57, my trusty Rolex Submariner, a Seiko diver I wear for messy jobs, and that old Tissot dress watch I got years back. Just wanted a mix.

Then I took each watch out, one by one. Started with the Omega. Noticed the case shape right away – it’s way more curved than the others, sits super nice on the wrist. Flipped it over to check the see-through back – the others don’t have that except maybe fancy ones.

  • Put them all side-by-side: Literally lined them up like soldiers. Looked at the dials closely. The Omega has these skinny little hands and markers. Very vintage look.
  • Measured the thickness: Okay, this was funny. Used my kid’s school ruler. The Speedy ’57 is actually thinner than the Sub! Surprised me. The Seiko is chunky as expected.
  • Fiddled with the little twisty things on the side: Technical term? Crowns. The Omega’s has a cool vintage style and it screws down solid. Felt better than the Tissot’s, which is tiny and slippery. Rolex crown wins for smoothness, but it’s huge.

Tried timing some stupid things with the stopwatch function. Started boiling water for coffee and timed it with the Omega’s chronograph. Big difference? The Omega starts and stops with a much sharper click. Feels precise. My Seiko’s stopwatch feels kinda mushy by comparison.

What Jumped Out at Me

After messing around for about an hour:
The Speedmaster ’57 is definitely thinner and curves differently. Wears way flatter than my bulky divers. It looks fancy because of that curvy case and domed glass, even next to the Rolex which is sporty and thick. The stopwatch buttons feel better too – clickier. Downside? Lume isn’t as bright as my Seiko. You gotta get used to that little timekeeping circle near three o’clock. Easy to glance at the main time, though.

The big takeaway? It’s not a magic watch, alright? For kicking around the house, the Seiko is still king. Diving, Rolex feels tougher. But if you want something that looks cool, feels different on the wrist, and has that slick stopwatch thing? The Speedy ’57 nails it. It’s a specific vibe. You pay for it, though. That Seiko cost me way less.
