Hey everyone, it’s your boy back with another one of my crazy projects. Today I wanna talk about that insane “glass” dress Nina Dobrev wore to the Met Gala. You know, the one that looked like it was straight out of a fairy tale? Yeah, that one. I was so blown away by it, I just had to try and figure out how they made the darn thing.

So, I started digging, doing what I always do when I get obsessed with something. I watched a ton of videos, read every article I could find, and basically turned into a Nina Dobrev fashion detective. Turns out, this wasn’t just any dress, oh no. This was a Zac Posen masterpiece, and the guy partnered with GE Additive x Protolabs to make it. That’s where things got interesting.

They didn’t just sew this thing together. They designed it in four separate pieces and 3D printed each part to fit Nina’s body perfectly. I mean, talk about custom-made! I spent hours trying to wrap my head around the 3D printing process. It’s not like you can just print a whole dress in one go, especially not one this detailed. Each part must have taken forever. It really is a nice dress. No wonder why Nina Dobrev has sported a number of eye-catching looks throughout the years attending star-studded premieres.

Then there was the dress itself. The sweetheart neckline was such a classic touch, and the way it flowed, it looked like liquid glass. I’m pretty sure they used some special kind of resin to get that effect. The whole thing was just so elegant and futuristic at the same time. I bet there was a lot of trial and error involved to get it that good.

Of course, a dress like this needs the right styling. Nina’s hair was slicked back into this angular style, which really showed off the dress’s neckline. And don’t even get me started on those Christian Louboutin pumps. The whole look was just chef’s kiss.

I gotta say, trying to recreate even a tiny part of this dress was a challenge. I messed around with some resin and molds, but it was way harder than I expected. But hey, it wouldn’t be fun if it were easy, right?

This whole project just made me appreciate the artistry and engineering that goes into high fashion. It’s not just about looking pretty. It’s about pushing boundaries and using technology in creative ways. Nina Dobrev’s glass dress is a perfect example of that, and I’m so glad I got to deep dive into it. Maybe I’ll try 3D printing another crazy dress next time, who knows.

Anyway, that’s it for this one. Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any other fashion projects you want me to tackle, hit me up in the comments. Catch you in the next one!
