Okay, so I’ve been messing around with calendars lately, trying to make them look, you know, good. Not just functional, but actually pleasing to the eye. And let me tell you, it’s harder than it looks! But I think I finally cracked the code, or at least, I found a style I really like.

Starting from Scratch (and Failing a Few Times)

First, I doodled some ideas on paper. Just basic layouts, nothing fancy. I tried a few different grid styles, played around with where to put the days of the week, that sort of thing. Some of them were truly awful. Like, “what was I even thinking?” awful.

Then, I jumped into a design program. I wanted to keep it simple, so I focused on clean lines and a muted color palette. I started with a basic grid – seven columns for the days, and enough rows for the weeks. That part was easy.

The Fun Part: Making it Pretty

The real challenge was making it visually appealing. I experimented with different fonts. I ended up choosing one font for an eye-catching heading and another for readablity days and numbers. I also make the date numbers font bigger than day’s font.

Next up: colors. I didn’t want anything too bright or distracting. I went with a set of soft, neutral tones – think grays, light blues, and maybe a touch of pale pink. I used different shades to create a subtle visual hierarchy, highlighting the current month and week.

I added some very light gray lines to separate the days, but I made sure they weren’t too harsh. I wanted the calendar to feel open and airy, not boxy and confined.

Finishing and my thoughts

Finally,I am done. I think it really is good and beautiful. Rows and columns are arranged well.
