Once I had a bit of open road, I gave it a little gas. Just a little. The response was immediate. Smooth, but strong. I wasn’t trying to break any speed records, you know, just feeling it out. The steering felt precise, not too heavy, not too light. For a big car, it didn’t feel floaty at all. It felt planted.

The “GranLusso” trim really means they throw all the fancy comfort stuff at it. And you notice. It wasn’t just about speed; it was about how effortlessly it did everything. Cruising along, it was quiet, refined. But if you nudged the throttle, that Maserati sound would come alive, a proper Italian soundtrack.

More Than Just a Drive

We eventually had to move it to the secure storage, which was about a 30-minute drive. I took the scenic route, obviously. Mark followed in his truck. It was on this longer drive that I really started to “get” the Quattroporte GranLusso. It’s not a hardcore sports car, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a grand tourer in the truest sense. It eats up miles and leaves you feeling relaxed, but also a bit special.

Parking it in the storage unit felt a bit sad, like putting a thoroughbred back in its stable when it wants to run. I did one last walk-around. The paint was like black glass. The chrome accents on the GranLusso trim, the discreet badges – it all just worked.

So, What’s the Verdict?

My hands-on time was basically an afternoon and an evening, not a long-term test. But it was enough. It’s one of those cars that makes an impression. It’s got character, something a lot of modern luxury barges seem to be missing. They’re all competent, sure, but this one had a bit of soul. You feel like you’re driving something unique.

Was it perfect? Probably not. I bet running costs are scary, and maybe some of the tech isn’t bleeding-edge compared to, say, a new S-Class. But that’s not the point of a car like this, is it? It’s about the experience, the feel, the sound, the style. And in that department, the Quattroporte GranLusso delivered. Big time. I handed the keys back to Mark, just grinning. What a day.
