Magenta Makeup Rocky Horror Picture Show: Simple Steps

Okay, here’s my blog post about my Rocky Horror Picture Show Magenta makeup experience:

Magenta Makeup Rocky Horror Picture Show: Simple Steps

So, I’ve always been a HUGE fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean, who isn’t? The music, the costumes, the sheer glorious weirdness of it all… Anyway, I decided I wanted to try doing Magenta’s makeup. I’ve cosplayed before, but makeup is kind of a new frontier for me.

First, I gathered my supplies. I already had some basic stuff, like foundation and eyeliner, but I knew I needed some specific colors. I’m pretty pale, so I figured the super-white foundation was a must. Then I needed a harsh contour. And the eyebrows, very stark and high arched.

Prepping My Face

I started by washing my face, I have combination skin, so T-zone prepped, moisturized everything. Then I applied a primer – gotta make that makeup stick, right? Once that was all set, I grabbed the lightest foundation I could find. I’m talking ghostly white. I slathered that stuff on, blending it down my neck so I didn’t look like I was wearing a mask. This took forever, to be honest. Foundation is tricky!

Creating the Contour

Next up, the contour. I am not a contour person, I watched a couple of YouTube videos to get the basic idea. I used a dark brown eyeshadow, since I didn’t have any actual contour products. I sucked in my cheeks and started brushing it on, trying to follow the natural hollows. I looked a bit like a zombie, but I figured that was kind of the point. I went HEAVY with the blush, too – a super bright, almost clownish pink. Magenta’s got those really flushed cheeks, you know?

Eyes and Brows

The eyes were pretty simple, at least in theory. I used a basic black liquid eyeliner to create a thick, dramatic line on my upper lid. I winged it out a little bit, but not too much. Then I applied tons of mascara. The goal, I decided, was “spider lashes.” Clumpy is good in this case!

The eyebrows, though… those were the real challenge. I covered my natural eyebrows with glue stick – yes, actual glue stick! – and then powdered them down. Then I drew on completely new eyebrows, way higher and more arched than my real ones. I used a black eyebrow pencil, and went over it a few times to make them really dark and defined.

Lips and Finishing Touches

  • For lips, find deep red lipstick.
  • Applied a dark red lipstick, going for that classic, slightly overdrawn look.
  • I added a little bit of gloss in the center to make them pop.

Finally, I sprayed my whole face with setting spray. It’s gonna be a long night. I didn’t want all that hard work to melt off!

The whole process took me a good hour, maybe longer. It was definitely a learning experience. I’m not sure I’d wear this look to the grocery store, but for a Rocky Horror party? Absolutely. I felt amazing, and that’s what really matters, right? It was messy and not perfect, but definitely Magenta!
