Well, let me tell you, this here Lowe’s, they got a thing about what their folks wear. Ain’t nothin’ fancy, but you gotta know the rules. See, I heard from my neighbor’s boy, who works there, all about this Lowe’s apparel for employees business. It ain’t like dressin’ up for Sunday meetin’, but it ain’t like sloppin’ the hogs either.
First off, they give you this red vest thing. Red vest, they call it. You put it on over your regular clothes, whatever you got. It has your name on it, so folks know who you are when you are helpin’ them. They like to put little badges and things on it too, for folks who done good. I reckon it’s like gettin’ a gold star in school, only it’s a badge on your vest.
Now, under that vest, you can wear most anything, long as it ain’t got holes bigger than your fist. Jeans is okay. Khaki pants is okay too, if you’re feelin’ a little more dressed up. They say no shorts, though. Long pants only. I guess they don’t want folks seein’ your knobby knees.
They also say you can wear shirts, like a t-shirt or a regular button-up, but they gotta be clean. No stains or nothin’. You wouldn’t want to be meetin’ customers lookin’ like you just wrestled a greased pig, now would you? They say no to t-shirts with writing on them, though, unless it is a Lowe’s t-shirt. Keep it simple, I reckon.
They told my neighbor’s boy that there’s a whole book about this stuff. The Lowe’s Employee Handbook, they call it. It’s got all the rules and such. I guess it’s important to read it. They want their employees to look decent, and they have a lot of new people startin’. I heard they hire a whole mess of folks every year. Lots of jobs at that Lowe’s place. This year it is like 25,000 new hires. So many new faces that need to know what to wear, so they can show up on their first day feelin’ good.
And shoes! Don’t forget shoes. They gotta be closed-toe, like regular shoes, not them flip-flop things. And they gotta have a back on ’em. Safety, you see. Don’t want nobody droppin’ a hammer on their toes. And comfy, too. You’ll be on your feet all day, walkin’ around that big store. My neighbor’s boy says his feet is always tired at the end of the day. So, good shoes is a must, that is for sure.

Now, they got these other folks, they call ’em the MST, sounds like a disease, don’t it? But it ain’t. It’s a team that makes sure the store is ready for customers. They do a lot of the heavy liftin’ and settin’ up. I guess they wear the same stuff, that red vest and all. They need to be comfy, too, since they do a lot of movin’ around. They are the ones that make the store look so nice.
They also got this thing called onboarding. Sounds like somethin’ you do on a boat. But it’s just learnin’ the ropes, I reckon. They teach you about the store and the rules. They tell you about their values and what they stand for. It’s like goin’ to school all over again, but for work. It is a good thing, I think. That way everyone knows what is what, and how things should be done.
- Wear that red vest they give you.
- Jeans or khaki pants is fine, but no shorts.
- Shirts is okay, even t-shirts, but nothin’ too wild.
- Shoes gotta be closed-toe and have a back. Comfy ones!
- Read that employee handbook.
- They got that MST team to get things ready.
- And that onboarding thing to teach you the ropes.
I tell you what, it’s a lot to remember. But I guess it ain’t so bad. They just want folks to look nice and be safe. This Lowes apparel for employees ain’t rocket science. Just good old common sense, mostly. You gotta look presentable if you’re gonna be dealin’ with customers, ain’t that right? And you don’t want to get hurt, neither. My neighbor’s boy, he seems to like workin’ there. Says the folks is nice, and the work ain’t too hard. He gets to help people, and that makes him feel good. He says they got a good thing goin’ at that Lowe’s. They take care of their people, long as they follow the rules, includin’ wearin’ the right clothes. So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ a job there, just remember what I told you about what to wear. It ain’t hard, just gotta use your head a little.
And one more thing, they say you can wear a hat, but it has to be a Lowe’s hat. I guess they want everyone to know you work there, even if you are just waterin’ the flowers outside. They say that in the Lowe’s Dress Code Policy, so it must be important. A hat is good for keepin’ the sun out of your eyes, anyway. Especially in the summer, when it gets so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. So, there you have it. All about the clothes at Lowe’s. It ain’t fancy, but it is important. Just remember to wear that vest, keep your pants on, and wear some good shoes. And don’t forget your Lowe’s hat!
