Okay, so “Poeme Perfume,” right? I’ve been wanting to try making my own scents for, like, forever. I finally took the plunge and, let me tell you, it was a bit of a rollercoaster, but totally worth it. I’m gonna walk you through what I did, mistakes and all.

Gathering My Supplies

First things first, I needed stuff. I had, like, zero supplies, so I hit up the internet and ordered a basic perfumery kit. It came with a bunch of essential oils (lavender, rose, sandalwood, that kind of thing), carrier oils (I chose jojoba because it’s supposed to be good for your skin), some tiny bottles, and little droppers. I also grabbed some perfumer’s alcohol online. I wanted everything to be, well perfect, so I try my best to prepare.

The Experiment Begins!

I felt like a mad scientist, all excited and nervous. I started with the basics, mixing just a couple of oils to see what would happen. My first attempt? A disaster! I put way too much lavender in, and it smelled like my grandma’s closet. Not exactly the vibe I was going for. I was a little bit disappointed.

First lesson learned: A little goes a long way with essential oils!

Trial and Error (Lots of Error)

I kept experimenting, keeping a notebook to jot down what I was doing. Seriously, write everything down! I tried all sorts of combinations. Some were okay, some were… interesting, and some were straight-up awful. One smelled like a pine tree air freshener exploded. Oops! I try to keep trying to find the scent that I really want.

  • Try 1: Lavender overload (Grandma’s closet)
  • Try 2: Rose and sandalwood (Kind of nice, but too heavy)
  • Try 3: The pine tree explosion (Never again)
  • Try 4: Lavender, rose, and a touch of citrus (Getting closer!)

Finding My “Poeme”

After many, many tries, I finally stumbled upon a combination I loved. It was a mix of rose, a tiny bit of jasmine, some sandalwood for warmth, and a hint of grapefruit for a little zing. It was floral, but not too sweet, and it had this warm, comforting feeling to it. I felt like I bottled up a little piece of poetry, hence “Poeme.”

I carefully mixed the essential oils with the jojoba oil in a small bottle, and then added the perfumer’s alcohol. I let it sit for a few weeks (this is called “maceration,” apparently), shaking it every now and then. The waiting was the hardest part!

I also learned another skills from this!

The Final Result

The final perfume? Amazing! It smelled even better after it had time to sit and blend. It’s not super strong like store-bought perfume, but it lasts for a good few hours, and I love that it’s unique to me. I’ve been wearing it every day, and I get compliments all the time. It has a very comforting scent.

So, that’s my “Poeme Perfume” adventure. It was messy, a bit frustrating at times, but ultimately so rewarding. If you’re thinking about trying to make your own perfume, I say go for it! Just be prepared for some trial and error, and don’t be afraid to experiment. You might just surprise yourself!
