My Go at Stone Make Up Today
Alright, so today I decided to try something different. Saw this idea floating around, called “stone make up”. Sounded kind of cool, earthy, you know? Not the usual glam stuff. I wasn’t really sure what it meant, but I figured it involved greys, maybe some browns, textured stuff. So, I thought, why not give it a shot? Had some free time, and my makeup bag was looking at me.
First off, I just washed my face and put on some basic moisturizer. Didn’t want anything too glowy, thinking stones aren’t exactly shiny, right? More matte, I guessed. So, I grabbed my most matte-looking foundation. Didn’t even use a primer, just went straight in. Slapped it on, blended it out with a sponge. Looked alright, pretty flat, which I figured was the point.
Then, the eyes. This is where I thought the ‘stone’ part would really happen. I pulled out this old palette that has a bunch of greys and taupe-y browns. Honestly, I wasn’t following any tutorial. I just started putting a medium grey all over the lid. Then I took a darker, charcoal grey and tried to smudge it along the lash line, top and bottom. Made a bit of a mess, not gonna lie. My blending isn’t the best. I tried to make it look intentional, like rough stone, you know? Added a tiny bit of a shimmery grey, like quartz maybe, just in the inner corner so I didn’t look completely dead.
- Grabbed a mid-tone grey shadow.
- Packed it onto the eyelid.
- Used a dark grey as a smudgy liner.
- Attempted to blend… sort of.
- Added a little inner corner shimmer.
For the face, I skipped the blush. Stones don’t blush, right? Felt weird. Instead, I took a cool-toned contour powder, one I rarely use, and tried to carve out my cheekbones a bit. Wanted that sharp, rocky kind of look. Went a bit heavier than usual. Looked kinda harsh in my bathroom lighting, but I stuck with it.
Lips were tricky. Didn’t want pink or red. Found this weird greyish-brown matte liquid lipstick I bought ages ago and never used. Perfect! Put that on. It felt super dry, but the color was spot on for the stone vibe. It really pulled the whole thing together, made it look less like I just messed up my eyeshadow.
So, the final look? It was… interesting. Definitely different. Not something I’d wear to the grocery store, probably. It looked kind of severe, but also kind of cool and edgy. Like I was channeling my inner rock. Haha. My blending on the eyes was still patchy up close, but from a distance, the mix of greys and the sharp contour gave off that stony impression I was aiming for. It was fun to just play with textures and colors I don’t normally use. Didn’t turn out perfect, but the process was pretty enjoyable. Just messing around, you know? That’s what makeup’s for sometimes.
