Alright, so I’ve been obsessed with Janet Jackson’s “Diamonds” lately. It’s such a powerful song, and I really wanted to dig into it, maybe even try to learn a little bit of it on the keyboard.

Getting Started
First things first, I listened to the song. Like, really listened. I put on my headphones, closed my eyes, and just let the music wash over me. I paid attention to the different layers – the beat, the melody, Janet’s vocals, everything.
Finding the Notes
Next, I tried to find some sheet music or tutorials online. No such a easy thing! But I kept searching. I figure out the basic chords after several attemps.
- I started with just the main melody line. I’d play a few notes, then listen back to the song, play a few more, listen again. It was slow going, but I gradually started to piece it together.
- I focused on getting the rhythm right. It such slow process!
Putting It All Together
Once I had a basic handle on the melody and chords, I tried to play along with the song. This was the real challenge! It’s one thing to play the notes by themselves, but it’s a whole other thing to keep up with Janet’s incredible vocals and the song’s driving beat.
It’s definitely a work in progress, but I’m having a blast! It feels amazing when I manage to hit a few notes in a row that actually sound like the song. It’s like I’m connecting with the music on a whole new level.
I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to play the whole song perfectly, but that’s not really the point. The point is to enjoy the process, to learn something new, and to appreciate the artistry of Janet Jackson and this incredible song even more.
