How to Tell if Your Michael Kors Bag is Fake: Simple Spotting Tips!

Okay, so I’m a big fan of Michael Kors bags. But, let’s be real, the fakes are EVERYWHERE. I recently snagged a bag I thought was a steal, and I got paranoid. So, I went down a rabbit hole to figure out how to spot a fake. Here’s what I did:

How to Tell if Your Michael Kors Bag is Fake: Simple Spotting Tips!

First, the Obvious Stuff

I started with the basics, like checking where I bought it. Was it a reputable store, or some random website I’d never heard of? That’s a HUGE red flag. I also looked at the price. If it seemed too good to be true, it probably was. Real Michael Kors bags aren’t usually dirt cheap.

Digging Deeper: Stitching and Material

Then, I got up close and personal with the bag. I examined the stitching. On a real MK bag, the stitching is usually super neat, even, and straight. No loose threads or wonky lines. The fake one I looked at before had some pretty sloppy stitching in comparison.

Next, I felt the material. The real deal usually uses high-quality leather or Saffiano leather, which has a distinctive cross-hatch texture. The fake I’d been suspicious about felt kinda…plasticky. A big giveaway!

Hardware and Logos

I moved onto the hardware – zippers, clasps, and that little MK logo. On authentic bags, the hardware feels heavy and solid, not cheap and flimsy. I made sure the zippers zipped smoothly, no sticking or catching. I also scrutinized the logo. It should be crisp and clear, not blurry or crooked.

  • Check the font! The “Michael” and “Kors” should be evenly spaced.
  • Look at any engravings. Real ones are usually clean and precise.

Lining and Interior Details

I flipped the bag inside out and checked the lining. Real MK bags often have a signature lining with the MK logo or name woven into the fabric. I looked for any tags inside. Real bags usually have a tag with a style number and sometimes even a serial number.

Comparing to the Real Deal

The best thing I did? I went online and found tons of pictures of authentic bags, the exact same model I supposedly had. I compared every tiny detail – the placement of the logo, the shape of the handles, the type of feet on the bottom. It’s tedious, but it really helped me see the differences.

This particular bag, the on sale that I have been considered, I am pretty sure that’s a fake. Better safe than sorry! It took me a while, but I felt way better after doing all this detective work. No more fake bags for me!
