Alright guys, so today I’m gonna walk you through my little project: light purple and white Dunks. Been wanting to do this for ages, finally got around to it!
First things first, gotta get your hands on a pair of plain white Dunks. I managed to snag a pair online, pretty standard stuff. Made sure they were clean and ready to go before I even thought about touching them with any color.
Next up, the purple. This was the tricky part. I wanted light purple, like, almost lavender, not Barney-the-dinosaur purple. Ended up mixing a couple of different acrylic paints to get the exact shade I was after. This took a few tries, I’m not gonna lie.
Then comes the taping. Seriously, spend the time on this. It’ll save you so much headache later. I used painter’s tape to mask off the areas I wanted to stay white – the swoosh, the midsole, that kinda thing. Press down hard on the edges of the tape to get a clean line. Trust me, this is key.
Now for the fun part: painting! I used a couple of thin coats of the purple, letting each coat dry completely before applying the next. This is super important to avoid streaks and unevenness. Patience is your friend here, people.
Once the paint was completely dry (I waited like, a whole day, just to be sure), I carefully peeled off the tape. And…bam! Clean lines, crisp white against that beautiful light purple. So satisfying!
Of course, you gotta seal everything to protect your hard work. I used a matte acrylic finisher spray, a few light coats, again letting each one dry. This helps prevent the paint from chipping or scratching.
Finally, I swapped out the laces for some white ones I had lying around. Gives it that extra clean look, you know? And that’s pretty much it! My light purple and white Dunks are done. Super happy with how they turned out.
Definitely a fun little project, and a great way to customize your kicks. Give it a try!
