Getting Started with This Petal Look
So, I saw this petal eyelash thing floating around, looked kinda neat, delicate you know? Figured I’d give it a whirl myself. Not like I haven’t messed with lashes before, but this looked different, more fiddly.
First thing, had to figure out what I actually needed. My usual strips weren’t gonna cut it. Seemed like individual lashes or maybe small clusters were the way to go. I dug through my stash and found:
- Some individual short and medium flares
- My trusty lash glue (the clear drying kind, less messy)
- Pointy tweezers, the good ones
- A magnifying mirror, because my eyes aren’t getting any younger
Right, got my stuff laid out. Cleaned my eyelids, put on a bit of liner so I had a guide. Seemed simple enough on paper, or well, on the screen where I saw it.
The Actual Trying Part
Okay, here’s where it got interesting. Dipped the first little cluster in glue. Waited a few seconds like usual for it to get tacky. Tried placing it on the outer corner. The idea, I think, was to group them slightly, make them fan out like tiny petals opening up. Easier said than done.
My first few tries were just… clumps. Glue everywhere. Or maybe not enough glue and the darn things wouldn’t stick right. Tweezers felt huge and clumsy all of a sudden. Getting the angle was the real pain. They either stood straight up like normal lashes or flopped down sadly. Not very petal-like.
I probably spent a good twenty minutes just on the outer corner of one eye. Got frustrated. Wiped it off, took a breath. Okay, maybe smaller clusters? Or maybe place individuals really close together? Tried that next.
This time, I focused on placing maybe 3-4 individual flares right next to each other, trying to angle the bases together and let the tips spread. A bit better. Still not quite the delicate look I saw. Looked more like I just messed up putting on regular flares.
Symmetry was another headache. Getting one eye to look halfway decent was one thing, matching it on the other eye? Felt impossible. One side looked fuller, the other more sparse. One side angled up, the other kinda drooped.
Finding a Groove (Sort Of)
After a lot more fiddling, pulling off lashes, and reapplying glue, I started to get a bit of a rhythm. What seemed to help was using less glue than I thought, and really focusing on the base placement. Pressing them gently onto the lash line, angled slightly outward as I went along the eye.
I also tried mixing short and medium flares within one “petal” cluster. That added a bit more texture, made it look less uniform and a bit more natural, ironically. Still took ages though. Definitely not a quick morning routine.
End Result and Thoughts
Finished both eyes. Stepped back from the mirror. Hmm. It wasn’t exactly like the inspiration pictures, not gonna lie. Looked okay, I guess? Definitely different from my usual look. More… detailed? Maybe a bit fussy for everyday.
It’s a technique that needs patience. Lots of it. And probably better quality individual lashes than the random ones I had lying around. Was it worth the hassle? Maybe for a special occasion if I practiced more. But honestly, getting those little clusters to fan out just right like petals? It’s tricky stuff. Glad I tried it, learned something, but yeah, took way longer than I expected.
