Alright, so I decided to mess around with a specific look today, something really focused on that vibrant, bold pink energy. You know the kind I mean. Didn’t have a super clear picture in my head at first, more like a feeling I wanted to get down.

Setting Things Up

First, I just cleared off my workspace. Needed some room to spread out. Then I started pulling out supplies. Mostly paints, yeah. I grabbed basically every shade of pink I could find, from the really pale stuff to the almost neon kind. Honestly, my collection was a bit chaotic.

  • Found some acrylics I forgot I had.
  • A few tubes of gouache too.
  • Even considered some old markers, but decided against it.

I laid down some paper, just cheap stuff for practice, didn’t want to waste anything good if it went sideways. Turned on some music, kinda got myself in the zone, you know?

Getting Hands Dirty

So I just started mixing. Squeezed out a big blob of a bright, almost fuchsia pink. Then I started adding things. A bit of white to see how it softened. A tiny touch of orange to see if it warmed it up. It’s really just trial and error, seeing what happens. Some mixes looked muddy, others were kinda cool.

I wasn’t really painting a specific thing yet, just getting the feel for the colors on paper. Making swatches, big messy strokes. Trying to get that specific pop. One combination, a really intense pink with just a hint of magenta, started to feel right. It had that punch I was looking for.

Working Through It

Once I had a color I liked, I started trying to actually apply it with more intention. Still keeping it loose, though. I layered some of the lighter pinks underneath the main bright one. Trying to create some depth, I guess. It wasn’t easy. Getting pinks to work together without looking flat or just… weird… took some doing.

There was a point where I almost scraped the whole thing. It just wasn’t clicking. The pink felt too aggressive, maybe? Or maybe just too simple. I stepped back for a bit, made some coffee. Looked at it again. Decided to add some sharper lines, maybe some contrast. Used a darker, almost purplish tone for some shadows, very sparingly.

Wrapping Up

Spent a while just tweaking. Adding tiny highlights with almost pure white. Softening some edges, sharpening others. It’s always hard to know when to stop, right? You can noodle it forever. But eventually, it felt… done. Or at least, done for this session. It captured that bold pink feeling I was chasing, even if it wasn’t perfect. Good practice, anyway. Cleaned up the brushes, put the paints away. Felt pretty good to just spend time pushing color around.
