Alright, let’s talk about this little project I got myself into. I saw one of those fluffy, furry purses online, you know the type, looked kinda fancy like those LV ones, and thought, “Hey, I could probably make something like that.” Seemed like a decent weekend challenge.
Getting the Stuff Together
First thing was getting the materials. Sounds simple, but nope. Finding the right kind of fur that felt soft but not cheap, and didn’t shed like crazy? Took me ages browsing online and finally hitting up a couple of fabric stores. Ended up with this faux fur, looked pretty decent.
Then I needed the other bits:
- Some sturdy fabric for lining, didn’t want the inside looking rough.
- A zipper, obviously.
- Thread that wouldn’t snap when going through thick fur.
- And I thought, maybe some kind of chain strap? Found a cheap one online.
I figured I had the basic tools: scissors, sewing machine, needles. Thought I was all set.
The Cutting and Sewing Drama
Okay, cutting the fur. Big mistake number one: doing it on my living room floor. That fluff got EVERYWHERE. Seriously, it was like a small animal had exploded. Took longer to clean up than to cut the pattern pieces. My vacuum cleaner nearly gave up on me.
Then came the sewing machine part. My poor old machine wasn’t exactly thrilled about thick fur. The needle kept getting stuck, or the thread would bunch up. Had to go super slow, like, one stitch at a time almost. It was maddening. Hand-sewing some of the tricky corners was actually faster, believe it or not, but my fingers were killing me afterwards.
Getting the lining attached neatly to the fur exterior without it puckering or looking wonky? That took a couple of tries. Had to unpick stitches more than once, which is always fun with fur hiding everything.
Putting It All Together
Attaching the zipper was fiddly. You gotta make sure it’s straight and doesn’t catch the fur when you zip it. Used a ton of pins. Probably too many. Then came attaching the loops for the chain strap. Made those out of some leftover sturdy fabric, reinforced them a bit so they wouldn’t just tear off.
Sewed those onto the sides before closing up the final seams. Honestly, by this point, I was just pushing through. Didn’t even care if it looked perfect anymore, just wanted it done.
The Final Result… Kinda
So, after all that wrestling with fur and thread, I finally had… well, a purse. It’s furry, it holds stuff. Is it LV quality? Haha, absolutely not. It’s a bit lopsided if you look closely, and the inside lining could be smoother.
But you know what? I made it. Went from seeing something to having this thing in my hands. It was a pain, way more effort than I expected, and my apartment still has random fluff appearing in corners. But yeah, it works. Probably won’t be making another one anytime soon, though. My sewing machine needs a break, and frankly, so do I.
