Honestly? This whole thing started when I saw that damn Gucci Mahjong set online. Way too expensive, obviously. But the picture stuck in my head, you know? That weird mix of crazy luxury and a game I play with my grandma? I had to see it for myself.

So, last Tuesday, I pulled the trigger. Clicked buy. Felt kinda ridiculous paying that much for tiles, but whatever. Package arrived this morning. Big box, fancy Gucci tape all over it. Ripped that off.
First Glimpse Inside
Opened it up. Boom. So much brown leather wrapping everything. Smelled expensive, actually. Strong leather smell. Took out the big felt case first – heavy and really plush. Then started unwrapping all the smaller packages inside:
- The Tiles: Pulled one bundle out. Unwrapped the cloth. Whoa. Each tile was like… solid? Heavy? Way heavier than my plastic ones. Felt dense. Smooth white backs, bright colors on the fronts. Gold plating on the flowers and dragons. Shiny. Really shiny.
- The Dice and Marker Sticks: Got three dice in a little pouch. Solid wood, felt nice. Two gold-colored sticks – they’re called ‘wind indicators’ or something? Yeah, they looked important.
- The Scoring Chips: Found a stack of green plaques. Plastic, I think? But thick. Weighed them in my hand. Have symbols and numbers.
The Real Surprise – The Table
Thought I was done. Then saw the biggest leather wrap at the bottom. Unfolded it carefully. Oh man. It was the tabletop! Folded in two. Unfolded it. It’s like a big square felt mat, super thick, with a giant GG pattern woven right into the green. Seriously fancy. Felt substantial.
But then! Hidden underneath the felt mat? Four wooden legs! No way. Opened that package. Each leg was solid wood, dark brown. Heavy too. Metal connectors on top. Followed the dumb little diagram that came with it. Took me a few tries to figure which end was up.
Okay, attached the first leg to the corner of the felt mat base. Took some pressure – had to shove it in real hard. Clicked. Did the other three corners. Took maybe 10 minutes, fumbling around.

The Assembly Frustration
Set the whole thing on the floor. Big green table with four legs now. Looks… kinda awkward? Like a square table but low. Then saw another small package – spare felt pads and a tiny wrench. Needed the wrench to tighten the legs properly! That little plastic wrench sucked. Almost dropped it like five times. Finally got all the bolts tight.
Seeing the Whole Damn Thing
Placed the heavy, folded felt case with all the tiles onto the center of the table. Set the dice pouch, the plaques, the marker sticks to the side. Stepped back.
Honestly? It’s ridiculous. Absolutely beautiful and completely ridiculous. That GG pattern everywhere, the thick green felt, the dark wood legs, those heavy tiles with the gold. It feels like playing Mahjong inside a Gucci store.
The Final Thought
Is it practical? Hell no. It cost more than some people pay for rent. But touching those tiles, seeing the gold sparkle under the light, smelling the leather? I get it. It’s stupidly over-the-top, but it makes me smile. Would I buy it again? Probably not. But playing a round on this thing next time the family comes over? Yeah, that’s gonna be something special. Still kinda amazed it’s all here in my living room.
