Okay, so, like, remember Kendall Jenner’s 2021 Met Gala look? The sheer Givenchy dress with all the sparkles? Yeah, I decided to try and recreate, or, you know, be inspired by it. Don’t judge!

First thing I did, obviously, was hit up Pinterest and Google Images. I needed, like, a million reference photos. Front, back, sides – the whole shebang. I really wanted to understand the structure of the dress before even thinking about the sparkle factor.
Fabric was the next hurdle. I knew I needed something sheer, but not too sheer. I didn’t want to be arrested, ya know? I ended up finding this really nice, lightweight tulle at my local fabric store. It had a bit of a shimmer to it already, which I thought was a good base for all the embellishments I was planning.
Then came the fun part… the sparkles! Oh man, I went overboard. I bought, like, every size and shape of rhinestone I could find. Seriously, my craft room looked like a unicorn threw up glitter. I also got some iridescent sequins for added dimension.
For the pattern, I straight up cheated. I found an old dress pattern that had a similar silhouette and just modified it to be longer and more fitted. I’m not a professional seamstress, okay? Gotta work with what I got!
I cut out the tulle, sewed the basic shape together (thank god for sewing machines!), and then the real work began: attaching the rhinestones. Ugh. I started by outlining the areas I wanted to be the most sparkly – the bust, the waist, down the sides. Then I just filled in the gaps with different sizes and shapes. This took, like, a week. My fingers were so sore!
Tip: Invest in a good rhinestone applicator tool. Seriously. It will save your life (and your sanity).
After what felt like an eternity, the dress was finally… sparkly. I added a simple nude slip underneath for modesty (duh). And then, BAM! Kendall Jenner, Met Gala-inspired. (Okay, maybe not exactly Kendall Jenner, but close enough for government work!)
- What I learned: Patience is key. Rhinestones are your friend (and your enemy).
- Would I do it again? Probably not. But it was a fun challenge!
- Final thoughts: Sparkle makes everything better.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go vacuum up all this glitter.
