That Time I Went Down a Rabbit Hole
Okay, so I gotta share this thing that happened a while back. Someone, I forget who, was talking about French films. Not the regular ones, but you know, the ones that are supposed to be more… bold. Artistic, they called it. Sounded intriguing, right? Different from the usual Hollywood stuff.

So, I thought, why not? Let’s see what this is all about. I started digging around. First stop, the usual streaming places. Typed in a few things people mentioned vaguely. Not much luck. You get the mainstream stuff, but the specific kind of vibe I was looking for? Harder to pin down.
Then I went deeper. Started hitting up forums, review sites, trying to piece together recommendations. It was like detective work, seriously. People would mention titles, but then finding them was another story.
- Checked out some older platforms.
- Looked into specialized sections on bigger sites.
- Even thought about dusty old DVD stores, but who has time for that now?
Honestly, a lot of what I stumbled upon wasn’t really hitting the mark. Some stuff just felt… cheap? Or trying too hard? It wasn’t the sophisticated, artsy thing I had in my head. It got kinda frustrating after a few evenings of clicking around, reading vague descriptions, watching questionable trailers.
It made me think. Was I chasing some kind of myth? This idea of ‘French erotica’ being this profound, different thing? Maybe the search itself, the mystery, was more interesting than actually finding the perfect film.
Ended up kinda giving up on that specific hunt. Funny thing is, during all that searching, I found some really great other French movies. You know, dramas, comedies, thrillers. Stuff I probably wouldn’t have looked for otherwise. So, it wasn’t a total waste of time, I guess. Just didn’t end up where I thought I would. It’s weird how paths diverge like that, you start looking for one thing and find something else entirely.
