Emrata Divorce Ring Style: How to Rock the Hottest New Jewelry Trend

Okay, so, you all know I’m into DIY stuff, right? Well, recently I got this idea stuck in my head about redoing some jewelry, and let me tell you, it turned into quite the project. It all started when I saw this post about Emily Ratajkowski and her “divorce rings.” Sounds wild, I know, but basically, she took her old engagement ring and turned it into two new rings. I thought, “Hey, I could do something like that!”

So, I dug out this old ring I had lying around. It wasn’t an engagement ring or anything, just this piece I never wore anymore. But the stones, they were pretty nice. I figured, why not give them a new life? It was a Toi et Moi ring, meaning it had two main stones. I did a little digging online and found out that Emily had help from her original ring jeweler, someone named Alison Lou. I didn’t have a fancy jeweler like that, but hey, I had the internet and a bit of determination.

First thing I did was carefully remove the stones from the old ring. That was a bit nerve-wracking, not gonna lie. I used some tools I had at home, mainly this tiny plier that I use for most of my DIY projects. Took some patience, but I got them out without any damage, thankfully.

Next, I had to figure out the design. I sketched out a bunch of ideas, trying to figure out how I wanted to use these two stones. I wasn’t sure if I wanted two separate rings like Emily, or maybe combine them in a different way. After a few days of doodling and staring at the stones, I decided to go with the two-ring idea. It just felt right.

Now, for the actual making of the rings. I bought some ring bands online, just plain ones. Nothing too fancy, because I wanted the stones to be the stars of the show. When the bands arrived, it was time for the tricky part: setting the stones. I’m not a professional jeweler, so this was definitely a learning experience.

I watched a ton of videos online, trying to figure out the best way to do this. After several test runs, and a few failed attempts, I finally managed to get the stones securely set in the new bands. I used a type of glue specifically made for jewelry, the type that requires a UV light to cure, so the stones were set in place. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of how they turned out.

    The Result:

  • Two new rings that I actually love wearing.
  • A sense of accomplishment because I did it all myself.
  • A reminder that old things can be transformed into something new and beautiful.

It was a fun project, and honestly, a bit of a rollercoaster. But in the end, I got two unique pieces of jewelry that mean a lot to me. And it all started with that “divorce ring” idea. Who knew, right?
