Earring Backs for Girl with Lots of Ear Piercings: Choosing the Right Ones

Okay, here’s my blog post about dealing with lots of ear piercings and earring backs, written in the style you requested:

Earring Backs for Girl with Lots of Ear Piercings: Choosing the Right Ones

So, I’ve got a ton of ear piercings. Like, seriously, a lot. I love the look, but man, it can be a real pain to manage all those earrings and, especially, all those tiny little backs! I went through a phase where I was constantly losing them, my earrings would fall out, it was just a mess. So, I started experimenting, and I’ve finally figured out a system that works for me. Thought I’d share it, in case anyone else is drowning in earring backs like I was.

First thing I did was ditch those standard butterfly backs. You know, the ones that come with most earrings? Yeah, those things are the enemy. They’re so flimsy, and they get bent out of shape super easily. Plus, they’re just plain uncomfortable if you sleep in your earrings (which, admittedly, I do sometimes… don’t judge!).

My Experimentation Phase

I tried a bunch of different things. First up:

  • Silicone backs: These were okay. Definitely more comfortable than the butterfly backs, and they stayed on a little better. But they still got lost pretty easily, and they kind of gunked up after a while. Not a total fail, but not a winner either.
  • Screw-on backs: I thought these would be the ultimate solution. Super secure, right? Wrong! They were a HUGE pain to get on and off, especially for my piercings that are higher up on my ear. I almost ripped my earlobe a couple of times trying to get those things screwed on tight. Definitely not worth the hassle.
  • Those little rubber stoppers: The clear, tiny, are hard to use and I can never get them to work! Always seem to fail at keeping it attached.

Then I found my solution.

After all that trial and error, I discovered locking earring backs. Game changer! They’re a little bit more expensive than the regular ones, but so worth it. They have a little mechanism that clicks into place, so they’re super secure. You need something, like a paperclip, to push in and then it will release the earring, but I got used to it.

The other thing I did was get organized. I used to just throw all my earrings and backs into a little dish. Big mistake. Now, I have a small jewelry box with separate compartments for different types of earrings, and a dedicated section just for backs. I even have different sections for different sizes of backs, because not all my earrings have the same post size. It’s made my earring wearing routine faster, and there is no panic.

So, that’s my journey from earring back chaos to (relative) order. If you’re rocking a lot of piercings, I highly recommend giving locking backs a try, and definitely invest in some kind of organization system. Your ears (and your sanity) will thank you!
