- A faded navy backpack for $4 (straps all stiff like cardboard)
- Some nasty pleather pants with torn knees ($2 bargain bin)
- Random zippers from mom’s sewing box (free but she’ll kill me later)
The Absolute Disaster Phase
First attempt: Cut backpack apart thinking I’d make the tote shape. Wrong move. Pleather started peeling like sunburnt skin when I tried sewing it. Broke two needles immediately. Fabric glue? Made everything look crusty. Almost dumped the whole thing in the trash.
How I Saved It (Sorta)
Scraped off the glue gunk with a butter knife. Reinforced pleather seams with duct tape – don’t judge, it’s hidden inside! Made triangle logo from plastic milk jug. Spray painted silver. Honestly? Looks trashy from three feet away but decent in dim lighting.
Final Reality Check
Took this abomination to brunch. Friend asked if I’d “stepped on a printer cartridge”. Told her it’s “vintage experimental”. She laughed but didn’t ask where to buy one. Mission failed successfully? Still keeping it on my shelf as a trophy though.
