Heard the radio blasting about the Big Blocks department store mega sale yesterday. You know how it is – “save money fast!” screams at you. Sounded like chaos, but also a chance. Figured I’d test it out myself today.

The Early Bird Gets… Through the Door

Set the alarm wicked early. Like, still-dark-out early. Chugged some lukewarm coffee in the car – ain’t nobody got time for hot coffee on sale day. Parking lot was already packed by 7 AM. Seriously? Grabbed a cart with a wobbly wheel right off the bat. Not a great sign, but hey, adventure.

Inside the Big Blocks Jungle

Push through those sliding doors? Instantly hit by the noise. Loudspeakers shouting deals, carts clanking, kids crying – pure madness. Place was brighter than a hospital room. Headed straight for the big banners shouting “SUPER DEALS” in the center. Shelves were already kinda messy. Gotta hustle.

  • Towel Sets: Spotted a stack on “Limit 1 per Customer” sale. Grabbed one quick before they vanished.
  • Kitchen Gadgets: Found a corner with mixers & blenders marked way down. Boxes looked a bit dented, but price was right.
  • Work Socks: My target. Found the table piled high. Started digging like a squirrel. Found a decent 6-pack deal.

The Hunt Gets Real

Dodged some slow walkers blocking the whole aisle. Felt like playing real-life Frogger. Heard someone shout about throw pillows clearance in Home Goods. Scooted over there, scanned the messy bin. Found a few decent ones without weird stains. Scooped ’em up. Saw electronics had a crowd huddled around TVs. Saw the line already forming. Forget that.

Checked my dorky clipboard list (yeah, I used one). Needed lightbulbs too. Found the section picked over, but snagged the last box of decent LEDs under the bright fluorescent glare.

Battle of the Checkout

Alright, done. Headed to checkout. Mistake. Every line was wrapped halfway down the aisle. Saw a guy trying to sneak in front – got yelled at real quick. Fun stuff. Finally got to a cashier after sweating in line forever.

Cashier scanned stuff slow. Watching each price pop up on the screen made me nervous. Saw the original price vs. sale price difference. Hey, actual savings! Final total looked okay to me. Bagged it myself cause no help was coming.

Final Haul

Shoved everything into the trunk. Stood back for a sec. What did I actually get?

  • One bath towel set
  • A box mixer (hopefully works)
  • Pack of work socks
  • Two couch pillows
  • Lightbulbs (won’t need for a year)

Saw another shopper almost drop a giant box on their foot. Felt glad I stuck to the plan. Saved some bucks? Yeah, maybe. Got my socks and bulbs. But man, my feet hurt.

Got home, dumped the bags on the kitchen floor. Grabbed a cold drink. Would I do that madness again? For legit deals on essentials, maybe. If I need socks next year, I might just pay full price.
