Okay, so I’ve been eyeing the “Batman” Rolex (the GMT-Master II with the black and blue bezel) for a while now. It’s just so cool, and I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one. Here’s how the whole thing went down.

Batman Rolex: The Dark Knights watch, learn all detail and history.

The Hunt Begins

First, I started by hitting up the usual spots online. I looked at some of the bigger watch forums, and checked out the usual pre-owned luxury watch sites. I was trying to get a feel for the prices and what kind of condition I could expect.

Then, I decided to go to a few authorized dealers. I figured talking to someone face-to-face might be helpful. I went into a couple of shops, chatted with the sales guys, and tried on a few different models just to be sure. Even Tried on a similar GMT.

The Waiting Game (and Some Luck!)

At the authorized dealers, they basically told me there was a waitlist. A long one. So, I put my name down, but I wasn’t holding my breath. I kept looking online, browsing those pre-owned sites almost every day. I also set some alerts so I’d get a notification if a new listing popped up.

Then, after a few weeks of patiently searching and waiting, I got lucky! I found a listing on one of my saved searches. It was from a private seller and looked like it was in pretty great shape. The pictures were good, the description seemed legit, and the price was decent.

Making it Happen

I messaged the seller right away, we chatted back and forth a bit, I asked a bunch of questions, and I requested some more photos, which they happily provided.

I felt good about it, so I decided to go for it. We agreed on a price. He lives a few states away so, I arranged to use an escrow service, I just felt a lot safer doing it that way and they agreed.

  • Money Sent to Escrow.
  • Seller ships.
  • I inspect.
  • I accept.
  • Escrow releases money!

I received the watch a few days later. It was even better in person! I took it to a local watchmaker to get it authenticated, just to be 100% sure. Everything checked out perfectly.

Finally, on My Wrist!

I got the watch back from the watchmaker, put it on my wrist, and I haven’t taken it off since! It’s seriously awesome. I’m so glad I went through with it. It took some patience and persistence, but it was totally worth it.

My advice: If you have your eye on a specific watch, do your research, be patient, be persistent, and consider all your options (authorized dealers, pre-owned, private sellers). The whole “Batman” thing, it adds to it, it’s that black and blue, its just cool.
