Reloaded the cleaned save. Deep breath. Hit the keybind. That beautiful animation played! Relief washed over me. Mostly. Tried it a few more times during gameplay. Worked about 90% of the time. Still got one random crash later, but at least it was functional. Made sure my dependency mods were all up-to-date and the load order stayed put.
What I Learned (So You Don’t Rage Quit)
- Check Those Dependencies Relentlessly: Even if you installed them ages ago. Updates happen, and mods get picky.
- Load Order Isn’t Suggestion, It’s Law: Ignore it at your peril. Tools exist to sort this automatically – use them.
- Old Saves Can Be Cursed: If a new save works and your main save doesn’t, the save file itself is probably corrupted or overloaded. Cleaning tools are worth their weight in gold.
- It’s Never Just “One Thing”: Mine was a combo of outdated mods AND bad load order AND a grumpy save file. Fixes are rarely instant.
